Anyone have this rod. If so what do you like and what do you not like about it. It is only a 50 dollar rod. That is why i am concerend about it.

from what i've been reading, the lightning rod is the king of that pricepoint. do a search for it on here, you should find a ton of threads about it.

Only good for crank baits very whippy. Will never buy one again. Broke it on a cast. Did I say that I would never buy one again.

Try the Shimano Voltaeus , a good cheap rod for 40.00.

Hi. I am new on here but I stumbled across this topic. I have one of these SHOCK rods ( 6'6 mh) and so far I am impressed with it. I just got it yesterday and it seems pretty nice  ;)for the price. As far as casting goes it does very nicely, it has a nice balance, and looks pretty sweet too. It isn't whippy at all ( probly the fact that it is an MH) and it is fairly sensitive. I fished it all day yesterday and this morning to see if i like it . I have heard and read many good things about this particular rod and i have to say so far it is all correct. As far as breaking it on a cast only time will tell. It seems a little more sturdy than that to me but that is my observation your mileage may vary.( mine might too) But for the price if i catch a couple good ones on it i'll be happy!

I had one last year but ended up breaking it setting the hook on maybe a 3lb SMB. I did land the fish though which was a +. It was a spinning 7' ML it was given to me as a gift so I figured i'd put it to use as a tube rod / drop shot rod. For what its worth and from what I can remember up until it broke it was a good rod.

I would save up 30.00 more, and get a Shimano Clarus..Lifetime warranty.

I've had mine for about 4 months 7ft mh casting and I have been very happy with it.  I mainly use it for pitching jigs and soft plastics. Also for fishing texas rigged worms.  I also have the regular lightning rod in the same length and action the shock feels more sensitive to me using the same reel and line.

I also use a 6'6 MH Ugly Stik Lite for spinners got something to say about that too don't ya????? How about another WOW???????? As far as the Shimano Voltaeus I have been looking at those and almost got one but they didn't have the one I wanted at academy so I figured I would try the Shock rod since I was gonna have to order on line to get it anyway. If the Shock rod doesn't work out that is probly my next buy!

Yes I own one plus the voltaeus that I mentioned earlier and I based my statements on more than one day of use. You should too.

Well, back to our original programming...

Before I started getting into high end rods, Lightning Rods were the best I could afford. Despite my affinity for upper end St Croixs and such, I still use a couple of my Lightning Rods, including a 5.5 ft pistol grip for topwaters and a 7 ft MH for C-rigs. Actually, my 7 footer to me feels better than my 7ft Croixs and Loomis rods, so I still use it a bit.

I know the Shock is a different rod, But I truly believe that at that price Berkely makes solid stuff...at least they used to (my rods from them are at least 7 yrs old). And yes, this is coming from a guy with over 20 rods from Croix, Loomis, Shimano, etc. Try it out and tell us what you think.

Well, Now that I've had it more than ONE DAY I guess I can!!! DAY TWO..... It performed exacty as DAY ONE . Still a pretty nice rod for the price . I even got curious to see if I could " BREAK IT ON A CAST " ( WITHIN NORMAL CONDITIONS) so I tied a 1 oz. white Spinnerbait on it and  Slow rolled the marina's with it from approx. 6 a.m. till about 10:45 a.m. this morning ( having knocked the paint and eyeball off of one side of my booyah after accidentally dinging one of the corners of the slips). IT 's STILL HERE!!!!! WOW. Let me bust out my crystal ball so I can tell you what it did for a year or so OK!!! I have only had it for two and a half days so my observations are trial and error! And all I am saying is as of my obviously unacceptable miniscule use and ownership of SAID rod... It seems with my lack of experience and judgement with SAID rod... That it might actually be a decent rod for the price. Besides that who the He77 are you to question me. You don't know me or anything about me. the only reason you are so mouthy is because we aren't standing right in front of each other toe to toe. So why don't you back up off of me and find some body else to pester. It seems like there is always one of you in any croud that thinks they know it all. At least you aren't whining about how I should have got a St.Croix or a Kistler or whatever other $150-$300 rod is in fashion this week! So, thank you for that. Other than that find someone else to pester about your dislike of the rod in this discussion because it really don't make three squirts what you have to say about it . the money is spent , I like the rod ( though obviously I am not qualified to) And I was just answering someones question with the experience ( though not as much as other peoples ) I had with SAID product . I read a lot of answers in these forums that always say " I don't have one but I've heard good things about 'em) and I just wanted to be able to let someone know that the product in question SEEMED to be ( from my observation considering I just got one )Ok SO FAR upon inspection and ONE DAY OF USE!( now TWO) If I was trying to act like a know it all then I would have lied and said " I've had it X amount of time ( a year , six months , whatever) and it did this or that ,was great, or it sucked . I don't do that!!! I gave my honest opinion with what I have to work with and was honest about my lack of any real time other than inspection and a day or two fishing with it. Hey nobody, I have some words of advice for you. Quit adding fuel to the fire! You are just asking for trouble with all these posts. I am almost thinking that you are intentionally doing this to try and get under his skin. PLZ just stop adding fuel to the fire and save yourself some grief.

As for the Lightning Shock Rod I have not used one but have used the regular Lightning rod and I must say that it is a great rod for the price. You can't go wrong with either one.

Berkley makes good sticks for the price. If you like it, buy it. If you don't, don't. I own two regular Lightning rods that I use myself all the time. The shocks sold out before I could pick one up this spring and I haven't seen any locally since. Must be pretty crappy since they can't keep them in stock. People that break rods on hook sets are people that damage rods and fish them anyway. Then they like to tell you it's crap because they broke it setting the hook on a 2 pound fish. Either that or they candy cane it trying to boat a fish. In over forty years of fishing for all types of fish, I can honestly say that I have NEVER broken a rod setting a hook. Regardless of how much it cost...

People that own $300 dollar bass rods are going to tell you that any rod that doesn't say Loomis or whatever is a P.O.S. If you've never owned or cast a $300 rod, will you ever know the difference? Neither will I...the most expensive rod I've got is a St Croix Legend Ultra. If you've got the disposable income to spend on the latest flavor of the week rods and $250 reels, good for you. Just quit crapping all over everybody that doesn't share the same "priorities"...

Yeah, I know. I just get tired of people always trying to undermind others with condescending remarks. it seems like there is always one on any discussion board I've seen. I keep looking at those regular lightning rods but never go ahead and get one cuz I am too busy eyeballing the lures and all the other lost items I'm trying to replace at the time ( our lake is pretty mucky w'lots of good snagging spots).I got one for my Dad for his B-day and he seems to like it real well. I played with it a little bit and I might just have to get me one .

You're basing your observations on one day of use ?????? WOW.

i could make all of those observations with 3 casts of a rod and recommend it. the only thing he cant vouch for is life expectancy and he did not. do you think the sensitivity, "whippyness" or balance will change after a few outings or something?
