My current Carolina rig setup is a 7 1/2' MH baitcasting setup. I am considering converting to a spinning rig for this fishing. I've got a 7 1/2' MH Snook rod that I can easily convert.

Intuitively, it seems like the spinning rod might be better suited for C-rigging....I can cast the spinning rod further (especially with longer leaders) and the ergonomics of the spinning setup seem better suited to working deeper baits.

Growing up I fished Walleye in Minnesota. 80% of the time we would fish a C-rig type setup (Lindy Rig) and it is always done with spinning gear. All my saltwater setups are spinning rigs.

I don't do a lot of Carolina Rig fishing, but I plan on doing more of it. It seems like the spinning rig might be a better choice for this fishing. Would love to hear from people who do more C-rig fishing and get their insight...

Thanks!

To tell you the truth ..... I do both  and to me it 's the same if it 's spinning or bc for C-rigging.

Give it a shot.

I use a baitcaster, only when fishing the C-rig.

I like the power to set the hook with a 7' MH or H rod and a strong reel.

But you may get a better "feel" of the bottom with a spinning rig.

Let us know how it works out.  :)

I have a friend who is a guide. All Carolina rigging done with 7' spinning rods.

I am going with the heavy spinning rod... I think I get a better feel for the bottom with the spinning rod and it seems easier to set the hook on a deep fish (> 5feet) with a spinning setup.

Thanks for all the input guys.
