Two piece rods????????

I was wondering what are some of the pros and cons of having a two piece rod.  Right now all my rods are one piece but I am looking for a nice rod I can keep in my trunk just in case I have that urge to wet a line.  Any advice would help alot

I didnt know they made 2 piece rods anymore unless your getting a pole from wally world. Did you find any nice 2 piece poles? because my dad does the same thing with a small tackle box but he uses a pos shakespeare

very nice, but i dont see any disadvantages in 2 piece pole. But make sure where you put them together is snug and secure because every once in a while i wouldnt pay attention to it and when i casted the top half of my pole went with the lure and i had to reel both back in!

if your're trying to say 2 piece rods aren't any good... i would have to disagree...i believe i have read here that the action is not that much different....just as good??  maybe not??  but junk??  no way..

you can find a decent 2 piece.  i found a Team Daiwa Tierra 2 piece for $65 and it works fine.  even a 2 piece ugly stick will work if it's not your primary rod...and just to be kept in the trunk..  imo

Pros:

It fits in the trunk, closet, travel case, etc. 

Cons:

Some might say you lose sensitivty.  This argument is becoming less and less valid in my opinion.  You also have to be very careful when it is broken down so as not to damage the now somewhat vulnerable joint.  Your selection will also be smaller when shopping for two piece rods. 

Edit:  For those who haven't looked, you can find several VERY high quality two piece rods.  One example is the St. Croix Legend Elite series which offers two piece models of some spinning rods.

Back in the old days 2 piece rods were far from being ideal, blank quality, metal jacket joints, poor sensitivity made them pretty crappy; but that was then, now it 's completely different world, the worst modern two piece rod is light years ago from those rods of yesterday, of course, like usual, you get what you pay for, better multipiece rods ( 2-3-4 ) are not cheap and premium multipiece rods cost the same or more than premium 1 piece rods. So it 's a matter of how much you want to spend, however I must say, the trunk of your car is not a good place to store a rod.

Sorry if i made them sound bad! I was just trying to say the only ones i have actually seen in two piece are at wall mart. Im not trying to Put 2 pieces down because they definitely have their place. If i had a car and could drive would most definately have a 2 piece ugly stick in the back (:

Well, you can find very nice 2 piece rod if you don 't look for them at Wally World, it 's a matter of searching or asking where ya know.

I have 7-8 setups and out of those all but one are 2 piece rods. Several are Cabelas XMLs and one is a Cabelas XMLTi with the least expensive being a Daiwa D Force 2 pc fiberglass rod I use for cranking. My one piece is also a Cabelas XML rig and jig rod and my 2 piece rig and jig feels just as sensitive. As Raul said the gap has closed and of course you get what you pay for in either the 1 piece or 2 piece rod. The only one that has ever come apart on a cast is the Daiwa and that was my fault for not putting it together snugly.

All in all they aren't bad at all and for me they are great.

Shimano has numerous lines with 2-pc rods in them.  My recommendation for a good 2-pc rod would be in the Compre lineup.  Good sensitivity, lifetime warranty, good components, and the price ain't bad, either.  Sure its more expensive than walmart or BPS combos, but its a quality rod that should last you and have no major disadvantages over a 1-pc.

The only drawbacks to a 2-pc rod is the slight added weight, and the care you must take to ensure the joint is TIGHT and STRAIGHT before using it each time.  The benefits are, obviously, portability (great when going camping with the family and you can't take a bunc of 1-pc rods due to lack of space or lack of willingness to lug them through the forest to good shore fishing spots!).

Thanks for all the help. Just to clear up stuff I'm looking for a mid range rod that is Like a multi purpose it wont just be sitting in the trunk it will just be better to carry around rather then my carrot studs

I had the Shimano Clarus, until I broke the tip off.. :-[ It was a 7'6", 2pc spinning rod. I used it for freshwater, and saltwater bay fishing. Never had any problems with it, nor did I feel it was any less sensitive compared to a 1 pc Clarus, which sell for about 80.00.

I had this same question a couple months ago.  I ended up going with a 6'6" MH BPS Extreme when it was on sale for $69.99. and a 6'6" MH St Croix Premier, both 2-piece.  Both work well for the purpose, but if I had to do it again I would probably go for a second Premier.  The Extreme is just a LOT heavier.  But decent 2-piece rods are available out there.  Just gotta look for them.
