KC Bass Fanatic Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 What's your favorite knot for braided line? I typically use a palomar after having the clinch knot fail on me. I've heard a double palomar is great but haven't tried it yet. Quote
SGT Rico Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 So far so good using the uni-knot. I haven't had any issues. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted May 18, 2010 Super User Posted May 18, 2010 Uni, Palomar, and Snell. Quote
ichigo Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 rapala braid knot is the bomb and it will last longer than palomar hands down Quote
WanderLust Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Improved Clinch, uni, palomar and the braid knot all work well... Most the time I just use a palomar or Improved clinch. Wet the line is key when tightening braid. Quote
avid Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 I use braid all the time and have never had a problem with the standard palomar knot. Tying on leaders I use the improved albright. Quote
SimonDM17 Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 As everyone has said, palomar. But if you can't do a palomar on a lure, like if it's a really big spook or something, I use a double improved clinch. two loops through the eye, and then tie like a regular improved clinch. Quote
low_pro Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 I use this knot for everything... I fish alot of braid Quote
tennwalkinghorse Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 Palomar and the fishing fool knot. Google it Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted May 20, 2010 Super User Posted May 20, 2010 On small baits, like jigs est..I use a palomar, for my bigger baits, i.e. 6 to 9" swimbaits..I use a improved uni knot. This is on 55lb braid. I do 6 twists on the uni knot. Quote
KC Bass Fanatic Posted May 21, 2010 Author Posted May 21, 2010 I had this knot pull through twice on my using PowerPro 50lb...on fish....in a tournament....not good I use this knot for everything... I fish alot of braid Quote
low_pro Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 I had this knot pull through twice on my using PowerPro 50lb...on fish....in a tournament....not good Really? did you go through the eye twice? I go through the eye twice, twist 4 or 5 times, go through the bottom and back through the top... I mainly use Spiderwire stealth 20, 30, and 65... never had an issue. I've straightened hooks and even broke a rod.... Quote
triglet Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 palomar x2 x3 i too was having trouble with clinch knot but so far havent lost another hook since then Quote
Super User Catt Posted May 24, 2010 Super User Posted May 24, 2010 Palomar Knot, very quick & easy to tie Quote
stealthcaster Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 I'm 100% sold on the Berkeley Braid knot for braid-to-lure. In my own experience, the palomar breaks slightly before this knot (and yes I know how to properly tighten the palomar), and I believe the BBK won knot wars recently. http://www.bigchipnet.com/bcnv2/beginner/knots/default.asp?file=braid&cat=knots For braid to monofilament or fluorocarbon, I'd recommend Alberto's knot. http://www.stripersonline.com/Pages/Articles/article_arby_albertos_knot.shtml This one is basically a modified albright knot, very strong when tied and tightened properly. An update after a lot of fishing - I've been using a double palomar and the Berkley Braid Knot and neither has failed me. Thanks guys! Quote
Nebraska Bassin Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 I always used to just use an improved clinch, but I'm starting to really like palomar knots. They're easy to tie and seem pretty strong. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 17, 2010 Super User Posted June 17, 2010 San Diego Jam http://www.netknots.com/html/san_diego_jam_knot.html 8-) Quote
river-rat Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 When I first started using braid I would tie the palomar and double palomar and never had a problem. Last year I started using the reverse clinch knot which I have used for over 30 years for mono and have not had a problem. I can tie this knot a lot faster than the palomar. Quote
