Bass Junkie Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 One, on a hookset into a 14" Bass. 7' Mojo Medium with 12lb mono Quote
Shane Procell Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 Never broke a rod on a hookset. Ceiling fans and trolling motors only ;D I believe a monster hookset is over rated. Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted June 15, 2010 Super User Posted June 15, 2010 None. I've only broken a couple, and they have been done the standard way: operator error. Quote
endless Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 So far I don't recall any but I have broken my Pro Qualifier rod by stepping trying to avoid my Bowfin from biting me when it jumped off my scale. Man I was furious, just bought the rod, go out the next day and to just to break it on my first on only first fish that morning. Quote
VolFan Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 One, a MH Shimano Clarus, on an 8 inch pike. It wasn't the hookset's problem, it was something wrong with the rod. Also probably my fault. Quote
hunt4 Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 3. Broke 2 carrot stick golds in the past month on hooksets. Kentucky Lake fish are expensive. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted June 15, 2010 Super User Posted June 15, 2010 If a rod is more than a few months old, failure on a hookset is directly attributable to user damage. Quote
Diablos Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 No hooksets but one time casting in to a heavy wind with a heavy lure. It was my fault and the company replaced the rod for a small fee. Quote
ToledoEF Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 I have broke 2 of them, an Loomis IMX and a Shimano crucial. Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 One, on a steelhead 25 years ago. So far so good. Quote
SGT Rico Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 None, never. I upgraded my rods this year to Wright and Mcgill (SR edition), and they all have performed flawlessly. Quote
Poolie727 Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 I'm jinxing myself no doubt, but never broke one on a hook set... now the ceiling fan in my office here, that's a different story. I did have a reel seat break once on a hook set and the reel went flying out of the back of the boat. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted June 16, 2010 Super User Posted June 16, 2010 3 or 4. 2 of them many, many years ago during the early days of graphite rods. They were often prone to snap on the hooksets. Another one, I don't remember the brand, fishing deep brush with braid. The last, on the RT last year. Though I had partially stepped on the rod earlier in the day. I'm pretty sure I fractured it. Quote
KSRonH Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 none on the hookset, but i have managed to find another way a couple of times. Quote
DWG1984 Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 I've broken one cabelas Fish Eagle II flipping into a submerged tree top. Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted June 17, 2010 Super User Posted June 17, 2010 I've broken several over the years being stewpid. Only one on the hookset. Using braid, snappin a jig up off the bottom. I set the hook with the braid wrapped around the rod tip. Snapped it right off. And that was the end of my story with braid. Got rid of it, and will never use it again. Quote
KC Bass Fanatic Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 Zero. I've broken 2 jerking too hard on a hung-up jig though. Both of those were with braid. I don't jerk hung lures anymore! Quote
heavy M Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 Never. Although now that I say that I am surely doomed ;D. Doors and stuff sliding around in the back of the truck have claimed a few though. Quote
Backlash17 Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 ONE it was on a braid hookset . But the best part of this topic is there is 4 pages of replys. and 95% have said no broke rods ..but when the topic of Carrot sticks comes up and there is three pages of replys on how people broke them on the hook set ...just found it funny Quote
