I should quit taking apart my reel..can ya help??

I would like to first of say that I took my reel apart cause it wasn't working right...With that said..here I go.

My  reel is a Shimano B-Mag1000..It's an older reel but worked really good last season. I got it out of storage and went to the lake to get some casting in to loosen up. I let it rip and I hear this awful noise coming from it and I get no distance what so ever. I was thinking the ball bearings were going out so I tore the whole thing down(except all the little gears) and gave it a good cleaning and oiling. Put it back together and now the spool will not spin and the retriever want do it's job. I have taken it apart many times trying to get it to work.

It will work while it's aprt, but once everything goes back on it says NO..lol  Any help??

If someone can help me out as seeing as my spinner rod/reel is starting to fray lines :'( and I don't have the cash for a new reel.

Good luck on an older reel like that. I cant get shimano parts for a reel 3 years old!  As far as your avatar, Be proud of your harvest and eat more fish, brain food.  Lord knows theres alot of  idiots on this forum who need to eat more fish!

My avatar is a catch I got on Thursday. As for the reel...

I had it working for a few minutes but then I pulled the line thru the eyes and tied on a crank and it dosen't work now..I think I'm just gonna quit. This is starting to give me a head ache.

Yea thats what I got but the type is so small that I can barely read it let alone go by it to put mine together..If it was in better detail I would of used it a long time ago. Thanks anyway for the help.

If the reel means anything to you , you could have a reel mechanic fix it. We have a couple guys on here that could do it.

I was thinking the ball bearings were going out so I tore the whole thing down(except all the little gears) and gave it a good cleaning and oiling. Put it back together and now the spool will not spin and the retriever want do it's job. I have taken it apart many times trying to get it to work.

If you can get the spool shaft bearings out, try holding one with one hand and stick a pencil in the center of the bearing and rotate the pencil. If the pencil rotates with ease then the bearing is good. if the pencil feels some resistance at any point then the bearing is good but needs cleaning. If the pencil doesn't rotate then the bearing really needs to be cleaned. I had a situation where I couldn't get that pencil to rotate and I flushed the bearing out with WD40, got the bearing to rotate and then put the bearing in a Simple Green degreaser solution of 4 parts water to 1 part Simple Green. Then rinsed the bearing in water. Once rinsed I air dried it with compressed air (like the one you would use for your keyboard) and added 1 drop of reel oil.

Try testing your spool shaft bearings first and post the results. There are a couple of more things I want you to try.

The part that you are holding in that image is the dial friction washer that sits on top of the mag dial as you replace the dial into the cover......

That reel is a bushing system (no bearings).

All you needed to do is add a drop of oil behind each bushing on the spool shaft shims and it would have loosened up a little.

That reel is a discontinued reel and very few parts are available for it. Be careful that you don't lose any of the parts. Package that reel up and send it off to a professional service shop for proper cleaning and re-lubing.

.RM.: You're right, I didn't even notice that until I looked at the schematic. My apologies. The only other thing I can think of is the level wind pawl locks up on the worm shaft. I've had both the bearing and pawl problems at different times which locked up the reel.

Finding parts can be tough, but I've found that Mike's Reel Repair in Canada has parts for older reels. I was able to find parts on a Quantum US600 last winter. Give them a try.
