Pinnacle Perfecta Initial Review

Well, I recieved my chosen rod from Pinnacle earlier today and decided to give it a brief workout since we actually had some clear afternoon weather. This is my initial review on the Pinnacle DHC5-762CAMHFS 7'6" flippin/pitchin stick with telescopic handle. More info to come throughout the week as I'll probably have more time to use it.

Paired up with a 7.1 Pro Qualifier. Very nicely balanced feel to the rod.

From my limited experience, the rod is quite comfortable to use. I've never really been a fan of rods with telescopic butts, but this one feels very solid to me. The guides are quite small which is always nice. I spooled up with 40lb braid to work in heavier cover. Very sensitive even though it's telescopic.  I was able to detect some very subtle bites.  This rod has oodles of backbone. I was able to haul a few fish out of very thick grass with ease. Nothing large, but the salad that came out with them sure made for a small battle. I'm not sure how much it weighs as I don't have a scale around here that can measure in ounces. It's not the lightest rod in the world, but it certainly isn't the heaviest. After two or three hours of using it, I felt that I could hold it an entire day and not be bothered in the least.

Hopefully over the weekend I'll be able to give it a good beating. Weather permitting of course. So far though, this seems like a very capable stick. If you've got any questions, please feel free to ask.

Nice. That's the model I chose too...Question for ya, how is the sensitivity on the rod..? Also, how's the balance..? 

I'm really hoping to win one on the next go round..

There is another model flippin/pitchin stick that is a 7'11" H.  I really would have liked to try that one out, I just don't really have the need for a broomstick like that for the areas I fish.

The balance point is probably a half inch over that knurled grip. Right in between the hook keeper and the top of the reel seat. Feels nice in the hand. It's not quite as sensitive as my Carbonlite, but it is still very sensitive. I was able to feel different bottom types without much of an issue. Mind you, that other rod is my worm/jig rod so I bought it to be super sensitive. This isn't a bottom contact rod per se. You could certainly use it for t-rigged worms without a problem though.

yeah the 7'6" would be my preference to. Already have a 7'11" hf..The one you have would fit very nice in my arsenal..

Oh, one othere thing if you don't mind..Did you toss any jigs with it, i.e. like 1/2 oz jigs ..?  Thanks again.

Not yet. I ran out of daylight before I had much time. I was mainly tossing things like Rage Craws and Gambler Crickets.  I'm "hoping" to get a chance tomorrow in between the World Cup matches. I've got a good feeling that it could be a very good swim jig type of rod. It's got a very stout backbone. I do plan on pitching some jigs into some of the emergent vegetation thats showing up. Mind you, I'm still really learning how to fish jigs effectively.

Thanks for the great review on the new Pinnacle Tournament Class Perfecta rod you've had a "sneak peak" at. We're glad you are impressed with the quality and performance. Just an FYI...for a 7' 6" Flipping/Pitching stick, this rod is extremely light and sensitive. As you mentioned, however, if you're used to shorter/lighter worming/jigging rods, this med. heavy action flipping stick may not feel as lightweight or sensitive in comparison. Let me assure you that with rods for other applications within the Tournament Class series, the lightness and hyper-sensitivity is readily apparent. The casting and spinning models are some of the lightest -- if not the lightest available on the market today. They're also super strong, thanks to Pinnacle's proprietary "Double Helical Construction" (DHC5). This exclusive construction process involves multiple high density carbon tape wraps (applied in opposite directions) around a high-modulus graphite prepreg "core." This allows for the elimination of glass scrim and resin, resulting in a rod that's feather-light, yet exceptionally strong and durable. The greatest news, however, is that these rods offer a higher level of quality and precision than our competitor's top-of-the-line rods at a significantly lower price (around $100 less) than competitive models.

Nope.  It's either extended, or collapsed.  I just keep mine extended.
