skateandfish Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 I have about $100 and I'd like to get a new bait caster. Right now I have a diawa magforce plus with the twitching bar and I'm kind of happy with it. It's been my first baitcasting reel. I'd like to get a new reel an my only requirements are it has to have the handle on the left, and I'd like a gear ratio from 6.4-1 or faster. Any suggestions? I fish alot of spinner baits, chatter baits, and topwater. I'd like it to be easy to cast far also. Quote
Ern Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 I'd look at a Abu Revo S or a Shimano Citica. Shame the Abu Orra doesnt come left for ya. Quote
bwell Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 The Citica (you will want the 201E) is a very nice reel for the money and a used one can be bought in the flea market on this site for around 70-80 bucks. Quote
catchnm Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 I'd like it to be easy to cast far Another vote for the Citica 201E. Quote
adclem Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Citica 201E, Revo S, BPS Pro Qualifier or BPS Carbonlite would all be good choices. I personally prefer the Revo S or the Citica. Later, Quote
bweave09 Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 I'm ready to be chastised here. I hate my citica. I would go with the BPS Pro Qualifier or the Revo S if I was you. The Citica does not cast well for me and changing the brake is a pain. I might be the only person on this site who does not like the Citica though, so there is a pretty good chance you'll enjoy it. It is just not for me. Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 I would recommend the Cabelas Prodigy PRC201 which is made by Daiwa for Cabelas. I have a model from a couple years ago and it's very smooth and you can't beat the Cabelas warranty. It is 6.3:1 has 6+1 bearings and weighs in at 8.6 oz. and right now is on sale for $79.99 which will leave you money left over for some good quality braid. Quote

It cast fairly well, but the drag wouldn't fully back off and the gearing was noticeably rougher than the Curado. I made a few casts in the yard, put it back in the box, and sold it on a local forum. I have no interest in ever owning another one. If I needed/wanted another reel in that price range I'd be looking at the Pro Qualifier, Revo S, Pflueger Asaro, or maybe an Okuma Cayenne. Quote

I have two more Citica E's on the way. I think it is just as smooth as my Revo STX. Quote
Stasher1 Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 That's entirely possible, but I'm not willing to try another when there are so many other quality reels out there in the same price range. Quote

Very true, I got my Citica D for 67 bucks and the two Citica E's for 150, I couldnt resist lol. I was just going to get a Curado but couldnt pass up the deal. Quote
b.wedlund Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 I have been really happy with the Quantum Accurists. I don't know if it is because I learned on them or what, but I prefer them to the more expensive reels that I have had (Although I have never gotten into the steelz, etc.). I am switching almost everything to accurists now. You can pick them up new for $99 or used for around half of that. Quote
Senkoman12 Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 though ive never used i have heard hat the pro qualifier is an awesome reel for the money Quote
Bassin for Walleye Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 I got the citica 201d and the cabelas prodigy and the shimano is better as far as smoothness but not by much. Couldn't tell you how the new citica is but I am happy with the prodigy because the prodigy is WAY smaller than the citica Quote
brushhoggin Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 another vote for the Revo S. you can't beat it without spending more Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted June 7, 2010 Super User Posted June 7, 2010 My choice is the Pro Qualifier. I've been very happy with all three of mine. Quote
