set_the_hook Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 I'm looking for a rattlebait rod for rippin through grass. i was thinking a powell 704 and using braid but i didnt know if the parabolic bend will allow me to rip free from the grass. i was also looking at the new powell glass "spook and trap" rod. i guess my big question here is do i go with a slower action or fast action rod? thanks in advance Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 I use a Mod action rod for deep cranks but for lip-less cranks but you want the faster action for lip-less cranks MF or F with some sensitivity to feel the bait ticking the grass. Quote
ejtaylor822 Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Yes, fast action with medium to medium-hvy power to rip the lure. Also, go with a low stretch line like braid or fluoro. You will lose a little of the rod's action at the end of the line with mono. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted June 8, 2010 Super User Posted June 8, 2010 I use an St. Croix LTB70MF "teaser" to fish vibration baits in weeds. The fast tip really helps detecting and snapping off weeds. For deflecting vibration baits off rocks and wood, I use A St. Croix AVC70MM for baits under 1/2 oz, and AVC70MHM for bigger baits. Line choice is very subjective, I've had good results with 12 lb. Fluoro, or 10 lb. CXX for weeds. For rocks and wood, I use 8 or 10 lb. CXX. Quote
