After multiple failed attempts to fish successfully with flourocarbon on my spinning reel  I returned the line and had my reel respooled with Berkley fireline after talking to the fishing guys at the local Scheel's.I haven't gone out and used my reel yet but when I do I'm hoping for better results.

I think it's a good choice in line and the flouro does take some getting used to after using braid but I've had alot of success with the flouro this year. Let us know how the braid works for you.

yeah the guy I talked to said the fireline takes a little getting used to but after I do I should really like it,I will probably go out friday and try it out.

Like you, I had trouble with flouro and switched to Stren. It seems better but I've been wanting to try braid. What test did you go with? Can the fish see it better or does it really matter?

Some fluorocarbons are too stiff to be used effectively on spinning rigs. I would use braid on a spinner and then use a flouro leader. You could get away with a leader anywhere from 3 to 8 ft. long, so you wouldn't even have to get the leader back into the spool making it easy to cast.

Personally, I use 20 lb. braid and 12 lb. flouro leaders for general fishing. If I get into was real slop, I'll go with 50 lb. braid and a 20lb. leader.

I've used straight braid with no leader before on my spinning setups. Since most of the waters I fish are Murky to Stained I don't think it really was a factor as far as the fish seeing the braid. I've only had one experience where the fish could see the braid and it was when I was using Fireline Crystal in a Gin Clear lake and I could see fish trailing the line. As far as # test I would go with 20# test 8 and or something just a bit heavier on the spinning gear.

Using a braid without a fluoro leader is fine if you're fishing top waters, in not too thick a slop. I say that because the purpose of the leader has little to do with visibility and more to do with abrasion resistance.

Braided lines abrade rather quickly when roughed up over rocks, logs or heavy vegetation. Good choice on the Fireline. However, I'd recommend using a quality fluoro leader of about 6' - 8'. Will give you the best of both worlds.

thanks for tips,I'll see how it goes the first couple of times out and see if I need to put a leader on there. I went with 8 lb. test so not to light and not to heavy since the reel I have has a max line weight of 8 lb. test.

Make sure you tie that leader on with a good knot. I went through a few knots that completely blew. The Alberto knot works best for me and I find it easy to tie with braid (its a PAIN tying stiff line to stiff line with it though, but I only do that with my fly rod when I do leader to tippet).

Using a leader with the braid doesn't that help the bait to get down a little deeper? For example using a crank bait.
