Super User burleytog Posted February 2, 2008 Super User Posted February 2, 2008 A Rat-L-Trap these things aren't. :-/ Having a showdown between several different lipless cranks. Bought a Redeye Shad to try out. Spent a bit of time on a pond this morning throwing them side by side. Out of all of them (SK Diamond Shad, Rat-L-Trap, xCalibur xr50, Spro Aruko Shad), the Redeye Shad was the worst. Would only run straight when it was slowly cranked, try to burn it and it would just lay over on it's side. If you're looking for lipless cranks, IMO you could do better. Quote
NEBassMan Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 that's strange. i catch tons of fish on the red eye shad, slow or burning it through grass. Quote

Super User burleytog Posted February 2, 2008 Author Super User Posted February 2, 2008 Maybe I got a bad one (and I'll never know thanks to TheBeast > ), but this thing wouldn't take normal fast cranking at all. The xCalibur and Rat-L-Traps were the clear winners with the Diamond Shad coming in third. Quote
Super User Tin Posted February 2, 2008 Super User Posted February 2, 2008 You must have, or maybe there newer one's have issues. Strike King has issues like that in the past. Some of there first Wild Shiner's were great, never had any issues. Then as time went on they turned to crap, lips breaking, they would sink. They do make a lot of baits that have issues. 4S that don't sink are hard to find lol. Only time will tell. : Quote
Super User burleytog Posted February 2, 2008 Author Super User Posted February 2, 2008 I've gotten more clunkers from SK than any other bait company. Almost not worth spending money on their stuff. Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 Out of all my lipless cranks, my favorites are the Red Eye Shad and the Yo Zuri Rattlin Vibe. Both run straight and make a ton of noise. Quote
markc Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 Getting a bad lipless bait is not very uncommon. I always buy 3 or 4 ratltraps at a time, because its a crap shoot wether or not they will run right. A bad one is useless, and a good one is priceless. If they don't run junk them because there really is no tunning them IMHO. Quote
Big-O Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 I've fished the Red Eye shad with good results as well but I've had the occasional problem with some of all manufacturers products. Like you said, the nature of the beast. I really like SK's new soft plastic line called Rage Tail, they're GREAT. Quote
Super User Micro Posted February 4, 2008 Super User Posted February 4, 2008 The xCalibur and Rat-L-Traps were the clear winners with the Diamond Shad coming in third. I really like the XCalibur lipless cranks. I have a few Xr75s and they run great. I've even managed a few fish on them in the short time I've had them. Quote
SneakySnook Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 I have never had any problems with them. I caught a ton of fish last summer with mine. You might want to adjust the eye so it runs straight. Quote
