L a r r y Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 I've been using PP 50lb braid and I can say so far I am loving it. I use it just about for every application. That way I won't pull one of my old decrepit muscles But is there a braid that is equivalent to PP that DOESN'T leave all the green muck on your reel? I looked at my reel last night and thought some type of fungus was growing on it at first Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted May 26, 2010 Super User Posted May 26, 2010 I have yet to use a braid that didn't lose it dye and turn white after some time. I have yellow gunk since I use the Hi Vis yellow. Quote
L a r r y Posted May 26, 2010 Author Posted May 26, 2010 Ok, so I am under the assumption this is just the nature of the beast to have to deal with, whatever dye the braid is covered in, it will eventually be all over your reel? Quote
s13john Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 yah pp seams to do that fireline braid seems to do it a good bit less except the first few times you use it your thumb will turn green, green fireline doesnt seem to lose its color as fast but the same cant be said for their tracer braid. Quote
avid Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 the good news is that the color is just that....color. Losing the color in no way affects the strength of the line. So don't be too quick to change out. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted May 26, 2010 Super User Posted May 26, 2010 Treat your line with KVD Line & Lure Conditioner, and this pretty much goes away. Helps the braid hold the color longer as well. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted May 26, 2010 Super User Posted May 26, 2010 i have my UL spooled with 20lb suffix braid and i haven't noticed any color loss at all. the suffix is a light green right out of the box, and it seems like the green color is actually part of the braid not a coating like it seems to be with power pro. that said, i have everything else spooled up with power pro and i love it just slightly cheaper than suffix and its all the same stuff if you ask me. braid doesn't go bad in the sun or when the colors gone or anything, and i only respool when my spool is getting so low it inhibits with casting. no problems for me Quote
L a r r y Posted May 27, 2010 Author Posted May 27, 2010 I wasn't planning on changing line JUST because the color faded, I've read that before. I was curious if this was a common thing with the other braids, as I have only used PP. I've used KVD line conditioner from the very first cast after I spooled my reel up with braid, and continue to use it when I'm on the water. I love that stuff, especially on my mono spooled reels and I can definitely notice a difference on them when I don't use it. THANKS FOR ALL THE COMMENTS THUS FAR!!! 8-) Quote

Super User Hammer 4 Posted May 27, 2010 Super User Posted May 27, 2010 Mine...Diawa Samuri braid, in green. My braid has faded, never had the dye make a mess, nor did it stain my thumb..Only other braid I tried was Spiderwire Ultracast, and the dye on that line did make a mess..my thumb was as green as the Jolly Green Giant... ;D Quote
RandySBreth Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 Remember you can color your braid any color you want with Sharpie's. Even before it fades... Quote
Super User J Francho Posted May 27, 2010 Super User Posted May 27, 2010 Some of the green junk might actually be from algae. Braid tends to pick up more of this than other mono filament lines. Quote
steezy Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 My P-Line Spectrex Braid doesn't loose any color. I was about to try PP but now I think Im going to try Daiwa Samurai Braid, its pricey but highly recommended by a lot of people. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted May 27, 2010 Super User Posted May 27, 2010 I have PP on about 15 spinning outfits, no b/c, fade yes, dye wear off and make a mess.......never. Quote

SimonDM17 Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 My P-Line Spectrex Braid doesn't loose any color.I was about to try PP but now I think Im going to try Daiwa Samurai Braid, its pricey but highly recommended by a lot of people. My P-line Spectrex, 20lb and 30lb, has definitely lost some color. However, I think less than the PP. (On a slightly related note, I think Spectrex has more 'body' to it than PP, or maybe PP just lays on the spool better. Either way, I stepped down from 30lb PP to 20lb Spectrex on my spinning setup, and I was happy with the change. The Spectrex has yet to cause one wind knot on spinning gear, which is my biggest peeve ever. The PP will wind knot on spinning gear, but I think it's better for baitcasters.) I just spooled up a reel with 40lb PP in Phantom Red, and I got absolutely zero gunk on my hands, guides or levelwind. I was very impressed. Maybe the green is the worst? Quote
