zero Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 i am planning to get curado 200e5 for tossing crankbait and i'm wondering if curado can toss 1/4oz crankbait good distance or should i get other reel ? Quote
Super User Raul Posted May 24, 2010 Super User Posted May 24, 2010 A lot of factors come into play when about casting distance is involved, some are in the reel, some are in the rod, some are in the line, some are in the lure and some you can 't do anything about it because it 's not in your power to modify those factors. Can a Curado cast a 1/4 ounce bait ? yes it can, any decent baitcaster can cast a 1/4 oz bait but, how far ? ----> with which rod ? with which line ? with which lure ? with which settings ? Some cranks cast and fly like a friggin rocket others cast and fly like crap. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted May 24, 2010 Super User Posted May 24, 2010 Raul is right on the money. I generally cast cranks lighter than 3/8 of an ounce on spinning gear though. Quote
smbrule Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 I have the Curado 200e and it will cast 1/4 oz. crankbaits. However, I much prefer to throw them on my 50 MG as the spool on that reel is much lighter when filled with line and therefore starts quicker. Result is you don't need to force the cast as much. Result better accuracy. Quote
pkelz Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 I'd say your best bet is to learn how to use the VBS on it. Get that worked out first. Then, depending on your situation (wind, type of cast etc.) use the spool friction knob to fine tune it. Since it's a light bait I'd recommend turning on all the brakes in the VBS and working your way back from there. That's one place where the Curados are tops - you can fine tune it as much as you need. Quote
