bryand82487 Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 Just saw these today on ***. check it out http://www.***.com/Team_Daiwa_Zillion-R_Casting_Reels/descpage-TDRC.html# Quote
Craiger12 Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 That is one sweet reel How do they have these in stock already?? Quote
Super User Raul Posted May 21, 2010 Super User Posted May 21, 2010 Hmmmm, I 'd rather spend another 80 bucks, get me a Steez and chop 3 ounces from the reel weight. Quote
Super User David P Posted May 21, 2010 Super User Posted May 21, 2010 Same page as Raul... Doesn't make too much sense to me, but maybe they have good reason. Seems as though anyone that will drop $400 on a reel, will drop a bit more for a Steez. Quote
Craiger12 Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 I would have to agree with regards to the weight. Doesn't seem to make sense at all. Why would they essentially remake the Zillion 50th with a few styling upgrades and try to sell it for $400, unless there are some performance upgrades we are not aware of yet. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted May 21, 2010 Super User Posted May 21, 2010 Handle bearings, drilled frame, and salt ready. Yawn. Quote
Mike__D Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 I really don't see the reason for bumping up the price to $400 and not even reducing the weight. I cant seem to find any reason for the price increase. other then the beefed up drag, carbon handle and the added bearings what else was upgraded to warrant such a increase??? Quote
Craiger12 Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 I'm not going to lie, I still want one of these bad boys... : Quote
Christop73 Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 Nice reel, however like others have said for another 80 I'll take a steez! Quote
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted May 21, 2010 Super User Posted May 21, 2010 I hope someone will eventually prove me wrong, but four bills for this 'new' reel is ridiculous. Also, what makes it a Type-R? Is it really tuned like other Type-R's? I haven't read anything that confirms this. In the event that this reel is R tuned, wouldn't it make more sense to sell a R+ tuned Zillion to the masses? Quote
Bronzefly Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 For $400 this reel should definitely have an R+ tuned rotor - still no confirmation either way - with a spool similar in weight and performance of the TD-Z or the Steez. It should also weigh 7oz or less. I was really hoping Daiwa did this one right! Very strange spot Daiwa made for this one being priced so closely to the Steez... Quote
Lucky Craft Man Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 I have several Zillions and I am not a big fan. They are smooth, but are heavy. If you are going to spend that type of money, get a Revo Premier (6.7 oz and $120 cheaper), Shimano Core (100 MgFV - 6.7 oz, 50 Mg - 5.5 oz, and both are $20 & $30 cheaper respectively) or a Diawa Steez (5.5 oz. and $80 more). I think these are better options. If the new Zillion weighed say 6 oz., then I could see the price justification. As you can see, I am a big fan of really light reels and my Zillions don't fit the bill. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted May 21, 2010 Super User Posted May 21, 2010 $400...No thanks. I see a price decrease within the next year or two....That's priced too high. Quote
steezy Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 Saw this reel in a new Daiwa catalog last week and dont understand why they didnt decrease the weight. I take my $480 Steez anyday over that reel. BTW, there are 2 new Steez rods being released soon. "Steez SPX Mega Top" 6'11" MLXF - no spine in the top portion of the rod. Casting and Spinning The rods have the typical Steez bling touches. SJB1226 Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 I over nighted the Zillion type R....I could not find any info on the reel other then what TW said... im REALLY mad... I was more then sure that this reel would have a tuned rotor and IT DOES NOT have type R or R+ tuning it has tuning like the I'ZE factory HLC spool that tuning is nice but not what I thought... the spool is 2 grams lighter then a stock Zillions and the I'ZE carbon handle (It doesnt say I'ZE on it but its the same handle just unmarked... im gonna keep it as im a big time Daiwa collector and own more less all there JDM limited edition reels and have a huge collection on only Daiwa reels but this is not cool and im kinda happy with it.. rubba bubba Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 The Zillion is a great reel at a $200 price point, but not much higher than that. Not sure why anyone would buy the Zillion-R over a Core 100 considering the price is pretty much the same. Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted May 21, 2010 Super User Posted May 21, 2010 As far as I can tell it's the Japanese version of the old red 50th anniversary Hyperspeed. I'd prefer this to dropping $400 on a zillion Quote
Super User Raul Posted May 21, 2010 Super User Posted May 21, 2010 The Zillion is a great reel at a $200 price point, but not much higher than that. Not sure why anyone would buy the Zillion-R over a Core 100 considering the price is pretty much the same. One resaon could be because the Core 's spool is a lot shallower than the the Zillion 's spool and you can spool in more heavier line in a Zillion than you can do with a Core, there a are a lot of guys who don 't necessariliy fish with 10-12 lb test all the time, on the contrary, they seldomly fish with line that "light", you can 't modify the spool to make it hold more heavier line. Let 's say for example that you want to fish with 14 lbs test, if you got a Core you 'll have give or take 80 yards of line ( that 's what the reel can hold ) witha Zillion you can have a lot more than 100 yards of the same line. ( depending upon Zillion model --> 120 yds/14 lbs ). I do agree, 400 bucks for a Zillion sounds a little bit too much for my taste, I 'd prefer to shell out the extra 80 dollars and go for a Steez. Could you please post a spool weight? I'm wondering if it weighs the same as a Zillion HLC spool which I measure at 15g with the cup and bearing attached. Any PICS of the spool would be great too! Thanks 8-) Quote
SJB1226 Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 ill get some pics up when I get home from work.. it is 17g's Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted May 21, 2010 Super User Posted May 21, 2010 has anyone used the reel? Quote
