Boogey Man Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Need some advice about a Fuego baitcaster. I makes a rattling sound on the cast and on a fast retrieve it's a combination rattle/clacking sound. I took it apart and gave it light cleaning/oiling but same noises. Could it be the Magforce Z? Thanks in advance. Quote
ArcticCat500 Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 crank, there's a member here under the name Jfrancho, look him up, he owns and operates Reel Smooth Reels, talk to him and explain your problem. I'm sure he'll be able to solve your problems. I don't let anyone else service my reels, Anyone! Quote
Super User burleytog Posted May 16, 2010 Super User Posted May 16, 2010 How loose is the spool tension knob? Quote
Boogey Man Posted May 17, 2010 Author Posted May 17, 2010 How loose is the spool tension knob? Tight enough that there's no lateral movement of the spool during the cast and retrieve. Quote
Uncle Leo Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 A Mag brake will make a whirling type noise with a lot of spool speed but not a rattle. I wonder if something may be loose in the Mag brake? Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 It's really hard to diagnose something without seeing it. Does the rattle occur only when the spool is spinning fast?Have you tried different mag settings to see if that makes any difference? Are there any other symptoms? Did this just start? You're welcome to give me a call if you'd like: 973-459-2835. Mike Quote

Yes, it's only during a hard cast or a fast retrieve. On a normal cast or fairly slow retrieve it sounds OK. I was thinking something is loose in the Mag break as well. Might be my project for this evening ;D Quote

I haven't tried adjusting the mag brake to see if it makes any difference. I'll try that this evening. And it does only happen when the spool is spinning fast. Quote
Super User .RM. Posted May 17, 2010 Super User Posted May 17, 2010 I makes a rattling sound on the cast and on a fast retrieve it's a combination rattle/clacking sound. If it were my reel I would be checking everything on the spool. The spool support bearing just behind the engagement pin and the palming plate side.I have heard bearings under load make that sound........... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!! Quote
Boogey Man Posted May 17, 2010 Author Posted May 17, 2010 OK, I think I had a dry bearing. I had oiled the bearings, the one the spool shaft and the one in the palming plate but I put another small drop on each one. The noise is better, I don't know if I'd say cured, but better. Thanks so much for the help! Quote
