Citica 200E loose handle

I haven't really notice this before so I guess it doesn't affect the performance in any way, but now that I've notice it, it's starting to bug me. The handle of my Citica 200E is loose and it pops in and out of the part where it's attached to the main part of the reel. Does anyone else have this problem? I've checked my other Shimano reels and they all seem to be loose, but this one has a pop to it. The knobs are really loose as well making the entire handle part a loosey goosey feeling.

Any inputs?

I have noticed on my Citica 200E that the crank paddles do move in and out a very slight amount as I crank it.  It's less when I'm using a bait that has less resistance in the water, sometimes not at all then, but a deep diving crankbait can make it "pop" as it goes around depending on what angle I'm holding the reel at.  Sometimes I try to move so it doesn't do this to prevent premature wear. 

This is only at the point where the paddles connect to the crank arm that I'm talking about, not the entire crank arm connection to the crank shaft.  That part (where the cap nut connects it to the shaft) is solid as a rock. 

I'm figuring that the paddles moving like they do is only because they were just not manufactured to be extrememly tight. otherwise it might not turn freely enough being that it doesn't have bearings in the paddles like the Curado does.  I also noticed this same thing in my BPS Extreme reels though, as well as some others that I've looked at in the past, and they do have bearings in the paddles.  All the paddles move in and out on their shafts a very small amount, even in reels that have bearings in the paddles instead of only bushings.  I actually combined some of the bearings recently in my Extremes to make 9 bearing models out of 2 of them, so that each paddle has 2 bearings each.  Sure did make it a slick feeling reel, but the paddles still move in and out a small amount.  No more and no less than my Citica without any bearings at all though. 

Altogether it's less than 1/16 inch of movement.  If yours is more than that then there might be something wrong.

Oh......and even though I just upgraded 2 of my Extremes to 9 bearing models to make them slicker feeling, I still like my new Citica with only 4 bearings a LOT better!!!

Use a #1 Phillips screwdriver to remove part #2119, and then remove #3944.  Use a nut driver - I believe its 11mm, and tighten part #2117.  You want the nut to align so that either the corners point exactly to the knobs, or so that the flat sides align. 

DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN THIS NUT!!!  You'll crush the collar on the brass crank shaft, and never be able remove the gear and drag stack.

Once you have that, replace part #3944 and then #2119.  If you have some Loctite Blue threadlock, you can use a drop on #2119, otherwise just snug it, or you'll crack #3944.

If that fails, I'd call Shimano, explain the issue, or send it to a pro.

most all baitcasters have that . they don't make them too tight so as that when you crank down the drag , the handle assembly will still turn freely . as for your handle grips/paddles , if nthey are the removable type , see if they are looose and if so , tighten them down . with those reels having only 4 bearings , it is safe to assume that they don't have bearing supported handles so it might be that the bushings are wearing a little . if possible , maybe see about replacing the bushings with bearings , might help out alot and make them a heck of a lot smoother

I really don't mind the loose knobs because it seems like all my reels have that same feel, but when the handle connected to the shaft is loose, it definitely bothers me. It's the popping feel that always break my concentration.

It's a 10mm if memory serves.  And the nuts that attach the knobs are reverse threaded.

Curado is 11mm, I assume the Citica is the same.

I did this yesterday and it didn't help much. I'll probably give Shimano a call to get an opinion. I'm not sure if I will send it in. Reel works fine like I said. Hopefully when I pick up another Citica, it won't have the same issue for me.

Just take it back.

Once you think you have a reel that you consider flawed, no matter what you do to it or with it you will still consider it flawed..

Just take it back...............................
