why am i getting so many backlashes?

last year i was doing great at the end of the season. put some new line on this year which was the same as last. yozuri hybrid 12lbs. matched it with my curado and crucial and throw a 3/8oz terminator and on cast i try to crank out there the line backlasshes and then finally spools out. what do i need to do? new line or what. when i cast out smooth i dont get a back lash with a side arm cast but over head cast i do! what the heck

if you're fishing spinnerbaits why do you have to overhand cast?  Just wondering

When you initiate your cast you get the spool spinning faster than the lure can pull the line off the spool.  The heavy spinnerbait finally catches up as it pulls the line off at the same rate as the spool rotates so the cast " smooths out."  When you make that smooth cast you are not speed loading the rod so lure pull is consistent with spool speed.  That's key with all casts on a baitcaster, whether you overhand, side arm, roll cast or pitch.

First make sure the line is tight on the spool, let all the line out in the water and rewind it, try some line cond. KVD has one. Next set your brakes, your reels have 6 spool brakes set 4 on and try that also make sure the cast control on the side of the reel is set so the bait will fall when U open up the spool and let the bait fall to the ground without the spool overruning. Maybe buy some new line, I change out my line at the end of every year.

You said it yourself when you said "When I cast smooth I don't get a backlash".  I cast farther with a nice, easy move with no backlashes than I do by really trying to snap a hard cast way out there.  Work on it.

if you want more distance and are casting very hard, you need to use your thumb a little more.

ya i thinks it a combination of everything. and dodge guy u sure do love that patriarch! i did happen to buy two pflueger supremes and they are awesome!

I have three reels with dual braking, and while they make casting a joy, I have yet to meet a BC that I can't backlash. Catch a bait on your motor, light, seat, console, etc. and your beloved Pflueger will blow up just like any other.

I sense that last year might have been your first or maybe second year with a bait caster. If so and your reel is set up properly you just need some practise. Athletes of all types and stages need tuning up for a new season.

I've probably been bait casting more years than a lot of you have been alive and I still get more backlashes at the beginning of the season.

agreed,but i meant under normal circumstances.i had some horrible treelashes.
