revo premier problem

I recently bought a 2009 revo and I am having a major issue with over run on the cast. I've played with the magnetic spool braking system, with little effect. I have to tighten the mechanical brake to the point where I can feel tension while reeling in, for the overrun to stop. I've taken the reel apart and everything appears to be fine. And before you ask, I do have experience with baitcasting reels and I own plenty of makes and models.

Any ideas?

I have a new Revo S and am taking it to Wayne Knabe in Powhatan, Virginia tomorrow for him to look at it.

I have to tighten the spool all the way and the drag vry tight to get a good cast without a backlash.

Wayne said he could adjust it for me.

He also reminded me not to buy the Revo, any type and now I know why.

Even experienced users can have major problems with the revo magnetic system, if you don't read and follow the directions. If you set the reel the normal accepted way for pin brake reels, it will over run. The first thing you have to do every time you change the tension is to turn the mag knob to zero. If you don't do that, the tension will be way to loose and you won't know it. Then set the tension to the weight of the bait. You don't want it to fall on it's own when you engage the thumb bar. you want it just tight enough that you need to very lightly shake the rod tip to get the bait to fall a foot or two. Then set the mags at a 1/3 to a 1/2 depending on conditions. At that setting, I can make long casts virtually thumb free.

That about sums it up. This is my first season using a bc reel ('09 Revo STX) and I was told pretty much the same thing. It's worked out very well for me and I often throw tubes with a 1/8 oz. weight in the 60' range. Heavier baits are no trouble at all.

Of course I get an occasional overrun, but nothing I can't pick out within seconds. It's lack of experience on my part, not the reel's fault. If a bc noob like me can figure out a Revo, they can't be that bad.

I have 3 AG Revo's, 2 premiers and 1 STX-HS.  These reels are absolutely incredible IMHO.  I use them for everything, light cranks, weightless senkos, jigs, buzz/spinners, swimbaits and I hae yet to have one single solitary problem with them.  My two premeirs are spooled with mono, and my STX with braid.  I've set the cast control and brake according to the lure I'm throwin.  If you are continuing to have major over run problems, try tightening the cast control, and add about 2-3 clicks on the brakes.  If you are not satisfied with the distance, back off one click on the magnetic brake, and one click on the cast control knob

what bait and what rod?

7" power worm w/ 3/8 weight on a med/hvy kistler micro mag. I put 10lb. floro on by mistake meant to use 12. You guys think that could be part of the problem, too light of a line?
