i don't understand their warranty. whats to stop a guy from calling them and telling them your rod snapped, send the $50, get your new rod and then not sending the tube back. raise hell when they harass you. seems they factor in fraud into their prices too. don't say prison because there could be a dozen reasons why the tube never got to them. disclaimer i don't advocate fraud.

if you dont return the rod in the pre-paid tube within 30 days, they charge your card for the full price for the rod.

we had one guy on this forum who was denied warranty by loomis and was then told he could not pay the $50 to use the expiditor service.

Why was that fella denied?

i find that hard to believe. they never asked me what was wrong with my rod. they just told me to ship it back when i get the new rod...

Well believe it. He tried to use the warranty for a defective rod and they denied him and when he asked if he could then use the 50.00 expediter , they told him no since he has already filed a warranty claim.

You have a choice to use the Xpeditor Program which is no questions asked and then pay for how fast you want the rod. Either the 50.00 standard or 65.00 2-Day delivery.

If you elect to go with the warranty which is if there is a defect they will repair or replace the rod for free. However if Loomis determines it was not a defect you then cannot elect to use the Xpeditor program. If I remember correctly that is what happened in the case mentioned in this post.

still dont believe it. the rod doesnt have to be registered. anyone can use expeditor service. his grandmother could send it in for him.

i think i remember what you guys are talking about. i think the problem was that he had to pay for shipping both ways because loomis denied his warranty claim. im thinking the customer wanted the warranty dept to handle the expeditor service but because it is a different dept they had to ship the rod back to him so that he could start the expeditor service himself. this would cost him the normal $50 dollar expeditor fee plus the shipping costs to and from the limited lifetime warranty dept to get his rod back.

edit: if this is not the case, i will call shimano/loomis and see what the deal is and report back.

I broke an MBR782 years back while stupidly trying to free a snag, or more accurately trying to pull the small boat I was in closer to the snag. Well, the rod snapped and Loomis replaced it under warranty. No cost to me at all even though it was totally my fault. I even wrote them a note explaining exactly what had happened. It's unfortunate that some people take advantage of the program and do not take care of their rods because they know they can get them replaced if they break. A guy at the local tackle store told me that some guys intentionally break the rods to get new ones. Loomis should keep track of this and start denying warranties to repeat offenders. It would lower the cost to the rest of us who use our equipment responsibly.

Covering something like that is more than I could ever ask for.

If I ran over a rod I would have to buy a new one, since that's just pure negligence in my opinion.

Although I've never owned a rod costing over $120 so I don't have as much in a replacement if it does happen.

What I stated in my post earlier was a result of my calling Loomis. You can not have it both ways and yes they are monitoring it as well.

wow. i guess you do need your grandmother to send it back. thats one scam i have to endorse.

pretty ridiculous policy. if i didnt take 15mins to get through to them id try to find out the reason. bad loomis!

thanks for info.

I have several Loomis rods two of which are GLX rods, one is a flipping stick which has never broken and the other is a BCR853GLX which I have broken 4 times in 3.5 years. The tip keeps breaking off (it has happened on a hookset, twice on a cast, and while trying to free a snag) but the expeditor replacement service get's them back to you quickly. If that rod was not BY FAR the best texas rig rod I have ever used (over Steez, Dobyns Extreme, JB Custom, Powell, Cumara, Legend Elite) I would not keep dealing with the tips breaking. That rod has a light tip but transmits absolutely everything, I end up throwing it 75% of the day unless the bite is on a frog or moving bait and when it isn't in my hand I start thinking about switching to it. It casts a mile, pitches perfectly, and is the most sensitive stick on the market. It is totally worth the cost and the expeditor cost every year.

I once threw a texas rig to a duck blind and got a backlash, I had 15 yards of slack out after clearing the backlash and got a bite that I actually HEARD through the recoil guides despite all the slack line in the water.  It sounded like someone hitting a guitar string.  I reeled in the slack and set the hook on a 4 pounder that I never felt, there is no way I would have caught that fish on another rod.

:) that 1 rod has cost you nearly $600 bux if not more..I cant beleive after the 2nd break you went back....although the GLX's maybe nice, but Dude you broke it 4 times.

If the rod retailed for $600 and had no charge for the expeditor service I would still buy one.  That rod is simply awesome.
