Super User dodgeguy Posted May 5, 2010 Super User Posted May 5, 2010 Thanks for the few serious responses, but back on topic, has anyone used the Spiderwire Ultracast invisi-braid? anyone have any reviews? it diggs in to much.powerpro is far from the best braid.it is an outdated 4 strand braid.sufix is better and fireline braid and diawa samurai are even better than suffix. After seeing the fireline box over and over again i decided to give it a try I started using it at the begging of last season, it is deff. the best braid i have used.I haven't had any issues at all. Super User SirSnookalot Posted May 5, 2010 Super User Posted May 5, 2010 I'm starting to put some stock into having the right reel on the rod is a key to avoid braid issues. I don't hawk one brand over another, I use PP. Seldom do I have wind knots, but it does happen. The majority of my fishing is in the ocean surf casting into 20+ mph wind, the surf is usually 2-4 and that pushes your lure around, keeping a tight line is difficult. I purchased a wide spool reel at BPS, had it out 3 times using 20# PP, windknot after windknot, it was terrible. Took the real back to BPS, gotta love there customer service, and exchanged the reel for another brand. Using the same line from the exchanged reel in 2 outings of 20+ winds not one single windknot. Super User eyedabassman Posted May 5, 2010 Super User Posted May 5, 2010 You can't go wrong with Sufix or Power Pro, both are great braids. Quote
Oldbritguy Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Thanks for the few serious responses, but back on topic, has anyone used the Spiderwire Ultracast invisi-braid? anyone have any reviews? Yes, I have tried the 30# and 50# Invisbraid and have removed it from two of my reels. I find it tends to stick together when wet, and causes frequent backlashes, despite carfefull thumbing. For whgat its worth, Oldbritguy Quote

22hertz Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 I've tried many including Power Pro. While Power Pro wasn't that bad compared to some others I still got more wind knots and pull/kinks on the reel. I felt Power Pro was better than some but not the best. I like Suffix. It has been on my Shimano Symetre the last three spoolings without problem. I love braid in general as well. I get as many bites as my buddies when were out fishing...sets are effortless and getting unhung I have a high chance of getting my lure back. I use the 8lb stuff...it casts a country mile and reels in the big ones 8-) Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted May 5, 2010 Super User Posted May 5, 2010 Yes, I have tried the Invisi-braid in 30#. From what I could tell, the finish is so slick that it digs in the spool when under tension and that digging-in makes the next cast almost a non-cast. I don't use it anymore. BTW it ain't "Invis"-able. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted May 5, 2010 Super User Posted May 5, 2010 I wasn't thrilled with the ultra cast..I do like the Samuri though.. Quote
Bassin for Walleye Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Say no to Spiderwire. It sucks. I tried it and cut easier than grass. Fireline crystal isn't too bad but I have found it coils on my reels too easily. Now powerpro on the other hand is by far my favorite braid. It is so limp after a few casts and for me windknots are few and far between. I have 30 pound on my baitcasting reel and doesn't dig in to itself. I would definitely suggest power pro and you wont be dissapointed. Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 The new FireLine Braid is the BEST BY FAR braid yet! Very few compare to it........ Quote
Super User Dan: Posted May 6, 2010 Super User Posted May 6, 2010 when I am not using dental floss I use PowerPro. It is much limper than other braids (which some dislike but I happen to prefer) and I've never ever had it break. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted May 6, 2010 Super User Posted May 6, 2010 I'll say the same for Samuri. Limp right off the spool too.. when I am not using dental floss I use PowerPro. It is much limper than other braids (which some dislike but I happen to prefer) and I've never ever had it break. Quote
