YeahSure Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 I'm looking to pick up a spool of some braid for one of my topwater setups, Can anyone recommend me a good brand to try out? Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted May 3, 2010 Super User Posted May 3, 2010 If you'll take time to do a search , you'll find all kinds of braids that are quality lines. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted May 4, 2010 Super User Posted May 4, 2010 Can't say which is the best. My bro-in-law swears by PowerPro. I did a bit of research, and bought Sufix Performance. Felt it was one of the better ones I could buy without spending a whole lotta moolah. Was at Dick's a couple days ago. The $15.99 spools of The Berkley Crystal and Fireline have a $7 rebate. Might not be the best, but not a killer to find out. Quote
YeahSure Posted May 4, 2010 Author Posted May 4, 2010 Has anyone tried Spidewire Ultracast Invisi-braid? Quote
bmadd Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 Pm Dan. He has done pretty extensive research on different braid brands. He'll be able to answer your questions about most brands. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted May 4, 2010 Super User Posted May 4, 2010 I don't know what he's talking about. I've never used braid before... Quote
Super User burleytog Posted May 4, 2010 Super User Posted May 4, 2010 I don't know what he's talking about. I've never used braid before... That's a lie, you had 80 lb. Spiderwire braid on all of your Zebco 202's when we fished together last summer. Quote
bmadd Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 You sent me that video you made on spooling braid onto a Zebco 33. Quote

I would go with a leader. Dan wasn't using one and it took him about 14 hours to catch a fish. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted May 4, 2010 Super User Posted May 4, 2010 spearmint works best in the spring, unflavored works better in the summer and winter. Only use a leader with unflavored, using it with spearmint would defeat the purpose of the flavor because they couldn't taste it. Quote

Oh, and btw, that one I caught was with one of Wayne's setups. Quote

Super User iceintheveins Posted May 4, 2010 Super User Posted May 4, 2010 Power pro is by far the best braid. IMO though braid is LOUSY for topwaters with the exception of frogs. Braid just does something to the action because it doesn't have any give to it. Quote
YeahSure Posted May 4, 2010 Author Posted May 4, 2010 Thanks for the few serious responses, but back on topic, has anyone used the Spiderwire Ultracast invisi-braid? anyone have any reviews? Quote
MattinOK Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 Thanks for the few serious responses, but back on topic, has anyone used the Spiderwire Ultracast invisi-braid? anyone have any reviews? My grandpa who has used every braid since the old kevlar stuff only uses two kinds. The old Stren Superbraid, and PP. He spooled up with some Ultracast Invisi-braid when he didn't bring any of his own braid with him. Me and him neither one liked. Very prone to splitting and fraying, and it is almost sticky so casting isn't that great either. Quote
Adam Harbuck Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 PowerPro....way better than anything Spiderwire makes in my opinion. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted May 4, 2010 Super User Posted May 4, 2010 I did try that invisi braid, and couldn't stand it. I now use the Power Pro (50/12), and I like it. Quote

Throw a 8" punker on a windy day..the line gets blown away too much to get a real action on the bait.. > Quote
