Line failed, lost swimbait...

So yesterday I got some new yo-zuri hybrid line to test out, along with a sebile magic swimmer.  I spooled up last night, and woke up early before work to go see how it works in the water.  I was fishing in shallow water over a beach to see the action, and how the bait looked in the water.  I hooked a fish within about 5 minutes, set the hook, and after about 2 cranks of the handle, my line popped.  I'm not talking about the hook coming loose, or something with teeth biting through it, that would be different.  I mean mid way from the rod tip to the water it just snapped.  This was not a too-tight drag situation, or anything like that.  From the quick glimpse of the fish, it was MAYBE 3 lbs at best...  I was told there's nothing they can do, has anyone ever been in a situation like that?  Kinda upset about losing an $18 swimbait on just a few casts because of bad line...  I was pulling the line apart with my hands after that, to the point where I had to strip off maybe 20 yards just to get a hook to stay.  Same thing on the fresh line off the spool.  And it wasn't breaking at the knot, it was breaking well above the knot.  Should I just suck it up, or does anyone have any recommendations?

Had the same situation with 10 LB Trilene XL.  After two lost lures, I ditched the remainder of the spool and bought anew.  Many have had that experience with other line brands as well.

It's just very frustrating to lose a brand new bait like that, especially since I wasn't snagged or dragging the line over anything.  Since i'm not getting anywhere with the company, I just purchased a new one along with some other goods elsewhere.

My sympathies. It is hard for me to put out that kind of money on a lure. (Yes I know there are lures costing several times that much. Whew!) Losing it after a few casts would definitely put me in a bad mood. I've read good things about yo-zuri hybrid. Unfortunately your tale is not the first I've read in regards to having problems with this line. At least one person has had the line snap while casting a lure.

I have no idea if it is a quality control issue, or if the line has been sitting around too long, or if it was exposed to too much heat. Maybe others can help you with that.

I guess I've been lucky. I use to use whatever I could find at the local chain store. Never had a problem. Knock on wood.

You didn't mention what lb test you were using..

I have thrown 2 1/2 oz swimbaits on 12lb yozuri ultrasoft...never had it snap..However, if the line at some point bent/folded, or a nick was in there that would create a weak point, and at some point it will break, just as a fluro line will. If that wasn't the case, you want to check your guides, just to be safe.

Well, issue resolved, I received a credit. 

To new2bc4bass, yea, i've never spent that much on a bait lol.   If I lost a 4 dollar rapala, I wouldn't have been so upset.  i've been wanting to get one of the sebile's for a long time, and just sucked to lose it in a few minutes.

Hammer, I was using 10lb., which is plenty strong, especially with the break ratings on the yo zuri.  I mostly use 6 or 8 lb test with similar baits, and have never had line snap like this.  My lake has very, very light cover, mostly partially submerged stumps and some rocky bottom areas.  Other than that it's mostly a sandy bottom, so snags are far and few between unless you're hitting the stumps.  (which I wasn't.  like said, I was fishing over the beach) After getting through a good amount of the spool of line, it seems to be much more durable.  I'll give it a second try, maybe with a texas rig this time and not a sebile lol.

i love yo zuri. and use it constantly.

but ive had this happen to me twice.

i think that it maybe be a storage issue either on the store or suppliers part. cause like you said, once you get past the first hundred yards or so it seems fine.

this has cost me two nice cranks.

the yo zuri is great though... and ive had no problems at all with the ultra soft for what its worth.

I use to spool mine of the 275 yd filler spools..I'm guessing you must have had a kink or something in the line when it was packaged.

Suggestion:

When this happens and you believe it is line failure, please consider returning it to the manufacturer with a letter explaining the problem.

You are not asking for a replacement spool. Your goal is to send the spool back so they can check it as their quality control failed allowing a bad batch of line to be produced.

This has happened to me, too. Not with an $18 bait but with two spinnerbaits. 

I can still see them flying into the wild blue yonder when my line snapped for some unknown reason.

As far as losing baits - Ive climbed 30+ into trees to get new $6 Rapalas.

Don't ask me how they got 30 feet into a tree. It just happened.

Thats nothin. I casted off probably 3 or 4 Huddlestons when they were $40 each. I have casted off two baits that are almost impossible to get. Thats not to mention the hundreds and hundreds of dollars worth of baits I have broke off. Its just part of the game.

Get rid of the blow-zuri and put on some Maxima Ultragreen, Trilene Big Game, or P-Line CXX. Then get ready to still lose some baits.

add Izorline XXX to that list of line for swimbaits . losing baits is part of the game , if you are afraid you might lose baits , don't throw swimbaits ...........

I lose something every day, whether it's a weak spot in the line, snag or cut off, that's fishing.

Recently I bought a spool of 20# Pline cxx, didn't like it and sent an email to them.  They responded by asking me to send it back to them, then they shipped me 2 spools of my choice.   Financial, not worth the time and effort, but why not, so I did.

guys, let's remember i'm not talking about losing baits in general, i'm talking about losing baits due to bad line.  I lose baits all the time, but that's not what this is about.  This was about getting a bad spool of line.  (the first xxx yards were no good.  literally pulled apart by hand with minimal pressure)

I was reimbursed for both the line, and the bait.

Well said.  It happens.  That's why I'm not risking my health to go after them.  30' trees!?!  That's craziness.
