Help- can't cast a Toad/Rage Shad on Braid...

I have a decent reel- Bass Pro Pro Qualifier and can cast stuff a country mile with Flourocarbon on it.  However, I have trie throwing a Toad or Rage Shad with both 50 Suffix Braid and 65 pound Spider Wire, and I just can't get the distance I am looking for.

It seems like there is just too much friction coming out of the spool, through the guides, and the line catches air drag with the slightest breeze. 

Any pointers on a better casting braid? or how to get my dang frog out there further...?

I'd say they're too light for your rig. Try using a keel weighted hook.

I use braid on my PQ without any issue.  One thing you may want to check is the centrifugal brakes.  I had to drop mine down to none at all, or two brakes on to get some good casting distance.  You can also lessen the tension the control knob a bunch with braid.

Yeah, try that first. I was assuming you had already tried this, but it's a good place to start.

Yeah- I just haven't found the sweet spot.  If I loosen things up too much, it overspins and catches.  If I tighten down it just doesn't get out there that far.

How far are you guys casting it?  Maybe my expectations on distance is too high because I am comparing it to flouro distance?

I honestly couldn't tell you how far I'm actually casting it.  At least 100 foot probably more, but thats with a different lure.  I use mine with a 7'6" rod though, so I get some casting distance just from being on a fairly long rod.  I've got my reel set very loose though.  It doesn't backlash at all though, I don't have to really have a thumb on it when it hits the water.  Cent brakes have 2 pins out.  I believe the magnetic is between 2 and 4.  I adjust that as needed.  If you drop it just to check the spool speed, it drops very quickly.  I'll get a light loop on the spool once it hits water.

might be just that the frog I am throwing is too light to pull the braid out...

I throw a Rage Toad a mile with a broom stick Powell 766, 65lb FireLine(best braid ever) and a Revo STX.

What kind of rod are you using?  If you're used to launching hollow-bodied frogs a mile with this setup, I can see why you might be concerned with casting distance with unweighted Rage Tails.  They weigh about half as much as a Spro.

what kind of braid are you using?some have more drag than others.spiderwire stealth has a lot of drag.fireline and diawa braid have very little drag.any braid will have more drag than a smooth flouro.the line i've used with the least drag is cajun red cast mono.

Use the REAL swimming frog, the Zoom Horny Toad. It weighs more.

i don't know about that one , seems the rage toad is slightly heavier , if not the same .

another option is to use smaller braid . i use 30 lb. power pro for frogs , the line is plenty strong and i can get super long casts with it .

Zoom Horny Toad, 55 lb Samurai braid, Custom GLX 7'5" BCR 893 and an Aldebaran reel.  Will cast a country mile.

I also use the 50lb PP braid on my Revo STX / Vendetta combo for my Rage Toads, and I can almost not see my bait anymore when I throw it way out there (exaggeration, but it's FAR!). I have a different setup for the Shad, and I use 17lb mono on my Fuego for those babies, and they also fly pretty far.
