DnaDProBassShops Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 I have been looking and reading on here for a good flippin/pitching rod, but im still stumped. I was originally going to get the st. croix bass mojo series rods, but after reading on here, i changed my mind. Then i was thinking about the new Skeet Reese rods, and i wasnt really feeling them to much. I talked to one guy that uses the Bass pro shops extreme rods, and he says he uses those for just about everything, loves them and has no problems. They are on sale on BPS for $69 regularly $99.. but the shipping is what gets ya. I dont really want to spend over 100, although i just might go a 'bit' over 100 if it is a highly recommended rod... Anyone have any ideas?! 8-) Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 For these techniques a quality strong sensitive rod is crucial. I suggest you save a bit more for something that will last. I use a Powell 705C for light cover. A Powell 735 for medium cover and a 765 for the nasty stuff! Extremely nice rods for their price IMO. Quote
DnaDProBassShops Posted April 30, 2010 Author Posted April 30, 2010 I appreciate the quick response! i am actually going to check those out right now. fortunately ill be getting my tax return so that could help fund a much better setup as you propose. Quote
dmac14 Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Look on the forum for some sales, I got a Shimano Crucial flippin stick for $120 shipped, and I love it. Its 7'6"mh and handles everything pretty well. Quote
Sqvedgis Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 I grabbed a BPS Pro Qualifier 7'6" HXF on sale for $99. Its the only rod in that series with the split grip which I like on a flippin/pitchin stick personally. I think it's a great option in the price range. Quote
Incheon Basser Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 If I were you I would look at the Dobyns Savvy SS766FLIP at 170$. I'll be honest and say that I personally do not own one but If your on a budget you will not be disappointed with this rod. In fact I would venture to say that after you purchase it you will be addicted to D rods and will buy many more. Many times in the industry rods are produced buy OEM's that don't know anything or care about fishing. That is not the case for Dobyns Rods OEM. They are avid about the sport. Holding tourneys here in Korea. All they do is build rods. Fly, Bass, Salt water and so on. When you take the Expertise of Gary Dobyns and match it with a company who is as obsessive with there image and quality of the products that they put out as they are about fishing, You get an amazing rod. The owner of the OEM actually lived at The Lake of the Ozarks for years in the 70's fishing and that's why he started his company, He loved fishing not money. I have been so impressed with them that I will be buying a few my self in the next couple of weeks. At full price. I am no way affiliated with either company but would sure love to be. Quote
.Paxamus. Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 Powell's are great rods and they have a liftime warranty which is nice because I tend to break rods Quote
DnaDProBassShops Posted May 3, 2010 Author Posted May 3, 2010 you guys are more than helpful! Thanks for all the great opinions. The dobyns rods seem like a prime choice but im going to have to pass until i can persuade myself to spend the cash on one. Ive heard some good things on the powell rods, and the lifetime warranty is a definte plus. Just out of curiosity has anyone had bad or good experiences with the bass pro extreme series rods? Quote
