NewAngler Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 I must say my attempts with Pline Evolution were frustrating. WOAH. I can't speak of Evo on spinner gear, but I use it on my swimbait reels in the 25#, and love it. IMO, it has surprisingly low memory for such a thick line, is stronger than an ox, and very manageable. What are your issues with it? Quote
Super User Raul Posted April 27, 2010 Super User Posted April 27, 2010 What is this Pline suff you all are talking about. Heck if they don't sell it at Walmart I don't have it or most likely not even heard of it. P-line is the brand of a line manufacturer that makes some of the best lines in the market, never seen it at Walmart though, but you are only a click away from BPS, Cabela 's, *** Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted April 27, 2010 Super User Posted April 27, 2010 this year i have only used Pline Floroclear on the spinning gear i have. i like it for cheap line. Quote

ArcticCat500 Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Burley, you need a Sol 2500 with the 100% Trilene. Every time I went to pick mine up to use it, Tin had it ;D and I thought he only grabbed my gear, must be a Tin thing Quote
trevor Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 What on earth were you doing to cause all that? I use spinning probably 60% of the time (I have Cores, Curados, and Calcuttas on the casting rods) and NEVER experience any of the troubles of which you speak. I guess there are a couple observations I seem to make often about "bass guys" that hate spinning tackle.I agree. Quality spinning gear is awesome. 1. They often use spinning tackle that is a step down in quality from their casting tackle. This sets them up for unhappiness. 2. They almost invariably use line that is too heavy for the reel they have. No wonder you have trouble if you put #14 flouro on a 1000 size reel (not saying you did, but I see it on here a lot). 3. People spool their line incorrectly onto the reel. Having worked in a tackle shop for more than a decade I saw this weekly. A nice reel + good line (in a proper size) still equals a mad fisherman if the line isn't spooled right. Just my $0.02.........with modern spinning tackle, there is no reason to ever have line twist issues or feel like you are undergunned. Matt Quote
Red Bear Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 i dont have near the line twist issues some people on here complain about and i use primarily spinning gear. the main time i have line twist issues is if the spool is getting low on line in which case its time to respool anyways. i dont think the quality of the reel has anything to do with line twist either. i own my share of cheap reels too. for example, i have a shakespeare combo spooled with 12lb trilene xl smooth casting line both bought from walmart and havent had one problem with line twist. never had line twist problems from not closing the bail manually either. now, ive had a couple problems in the past when spooling bigger line on a spinning reel but that went away after catching a few fish on it. i would say most problems people have with line twist is probably improper spooling, old line, or a spool low on line where the line is more tightly wrapped around the spool and gets more curled. detroit1 Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Burley- it doesn't matter what line one uses for dropshotting...it's gonna mess-up. I used to use mono and got more bites, but would have to "troll line" twice on a 6 hr. trip. Last year i went with braid/swivel/mono and had less line twist, but less fish also. I feel your pain... Super User burleytog Posted April 29, 2010 Author Super User Posted April 29, 2010 I wasn't dropshotting. Haven't done that in a long time. Even when it was the only thing I threw, I barely had any problems with twist. Quote
muskiebassfisher Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 with spinning gear you dont have to worry about switching hands after every cast and u dont have to lose 30mins untangling birdnests. which im sure happens to every baitcaster atleast once a trip. its funny fishing with friends on windy days watching them cast into the wind with all their strength only to have the lure drift back and create a huge birdsnest while you're slinging them like bullets all over the place. I had a Supreme 8035. It lasted two trips. The reels I'm using are a Stradic 2500FH and a 2500FI. Bail is always closed by hand. I filled a spare spool with 20/6 PowerPro earlier this week, going to give it a try over the next few weeks. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted May 2, 2010 Super User Posted May 2, 2010 I have 3 supremes, 25 and 30 for fresh and I use a 35 for snook and jack in saltwater, good reel and all 3 have lasted well over a year with hard use. I also own the stradic 4000, superior imo to the supreme, the cardinal or soron measures up to the stradic in every way it's actually my favorite. Keeping the line tight is the important factor, not hand closing the bail, some old wives tale someone created. I hand close maybe 75% of the time but see no real difference when cranked closed, spinning and braid 100% of the time. Here is what I can't figure out. Bought an 8' inshore rod recently med 8/17 and used my spheros 4000 and stradic 4000 without a glitch, perfect. Being a bit anal I wanted a lighter reel with more line capacity, so I bought a wide spool reel. Loaded up with the same 20# braid I get nothing but wind knots under the same conditions, an obvious non marriage of rod and reel and so much to the thought of narrow vs wide spool for better management, at least in my opinion. I will be returning the reel in favor of a soron or stradic this week. The best education comes from my own mistakes. Quote

NBR Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 Baitcasting is my preferred tackle but there are situations where spinning gear provides the best presentation. My newest spinning reel is over 10 years old and I have no problems with them at all. I have had my knuckles rapped a few times but you learn to get them out of the way. My take on problems with spinning gear are line twist and what ever you call that phenom when a bunch of line jumps off the reel. I can't recall the last time I had a line twist problem. Be sure to put the line on without twist, don't crank against a slipping drag, make sure baits run true. Put a swivel in the set up for baits that twist and for those little loops that sooner or later result in a bunch of line flying off the spool always close the bail with your hand not the crank. To keep from cranking against the drag I just set it tight and back reel. Since closing the bail by turning the crank is a long time bad habit I just need to concentrate. I am very careful making sure soft plastics don't spin an d on inline spinners I put a good quality swivel in the system. Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted May 2, 2010 Super User Posted May 2, 2010 What I've noticed to be my biggest issues is baits that spin when brought in fast at end of retrieve for next cast. Fin S Fish, Slider heads, tubes and the like will twist line if not careful. It's not the fault of the equpiment used and the way I see it, no way around it if you fish in a hurry. Closing bail by hand does seem to help a bit but in my case is no cure-all. I get "twist" (nothing real severe) but just accept it as part of the game and live with it. Quote
wisconsin heat Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 i love fishing spinning rods, you just gotta keep an eye on the spool to see eany loops or whatever b4 they get really bad, and they are much better to fish from shore with, baitcasters + trees = recipe for major backlash Quote
