allstar rods...older generation

I've got a Titanium 2-Piece 6'6" ML spinning rod.  I think it was on par with the Platinum series.  It is super sensitive and a joy to use.

I had the platinum P783C rod but sold it with some BPS rods to buy a loomis glx. I love the new loomis but am still kicking myself for selling the Allstar. Older Allstars were and are great rods. Not to hijack a thread but if anyone knows where to get another P783C, please PM me. The 783 with a revo premier made a great finesse and small top water bait rod.

Wasn't sure if you wanted commentary from the older generation of members or commentary on the older generation of All Star rods... since I qualify on both fronts, I'll respond.

Older guy comment- I think All Star is still one of the best values in rods today... even the cheaper ones fish like much more expensive rods.

If you meant the older generation of rods... yep they were even better. There was a time when All Star was considered the premium rod. Up until a recent burglary > :'( I still had several of the original WR2's. Darn thieves.

My whole arsenal is still the older generation all stars with one or two platinum's mixed in... aside from 2 carrots .... but either way i love those all stars... they really do fish like a more  expensive rod but after fishing with those carrots its hard to get used to the weight differential lol

haha...yea they are still a great value...and when i compare them in stores to other rods 3 times there price, i believe there ever bit as sensitive....also to everyone out there...if you have any for sale...please pm me

I have one of the older All Star T40-x rods.  That rod was awesome for its day.  Still is!

if not mistaken, the blanks of the original allstars were supplied by gloomis in the early days...the original castaway rods, as well.

got away from all star when they started rolling their own.

and, yea, the original wr-2 was as good a worm rod made...even by today's standards.

I have four older AS rods.  A Zell Rowland TWS (topwater special) IM6 that I would have a heart attack over if anything happened to it!  I also have three spinning rods.  The SRMTN is a 6'6" med action with Tennessee handle that I use for Dropshot/shakeyhead fishing as well as grubs/tube jigs.  The other one is a copy of the last, but in a MH action.  I fish senkos/wacky and some wormin' with it and it's super.  The third is a 5'10" SRMLTN.  Action is med. light, but I used it for dock fishing when skipping tube jigs was the craze (Guido Hibdon days).  I hauled smallies and LM up to 6lb out from under docks with that rod.  Sad to say I don't use it these days, but it's still in the closet.  Might just get it out one of these days.

I also have a 785C TWS Allstar I've been using for 10 yrs.  It may not be the best of the best but it fishes moving baits just dandy and I'd hate to lose or break it - I think of it as "ole dependable".

Check the forums and Ebay.  You'll find both Titaniums and Platinum 783's up for sale frequently.  In fact, I sold a P783 a couple months ago on Ebay.

I fish older Titaniums exclusively. They're getting harder and harder to find. I will probably wind up switching over to Falcon Cara's or Avids in the future when rods need replacing.

I'll hate to do it though. I LOVE those older Allstars and yes, they're still one of the best buys in rods today.  Incredibly sensitive for the price and tough as nails.  You don't have to treat those rods like a piece of fine china.
