bryand82487 Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Has anyone used one of these. I'm thinking about getting one to pair with a pluton and was hoping I could get some opinions on them. I'm looking at the 1/2 to 3 oz rod. If you have another rod to suggest feel free to do so. I've never fished any swimbaits really except a couple of paddletails, but would like to give it a try. If it doesn't work out I'll probably just get a rod for striper and use the pluton for that. Quote
NewAngler Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 If it doesn't work out, youre out $200+ on the zillion. A swimbait doesn't need yo have the best sensitivity in the word. I may suggest a Diawa Heartland or Okuma Guide series. A step up would be Diawa light and tough, but I haven't handled them. Also, my first sb rod went to 3 oz, and then slowly ended up with lures that weight 3.5-4 oz and didn't have the balls to launch them, this leading me to a heavier rod. It's rated for 1-8 oz. It can be a striper/musky/ big cat rod, too. Quote
bryand82487 Posted April 28, 2010 Author Posted April 28, 2010 Thanks for the advice. I'll take a look at them. The tackletour review says the ratings on the zillion are off and it can throw baits up to 5 oz with no problems. I guess I just need to make a decision now. Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted April 28, 2010 Super User Posted April 28, 2010 Maybe it's just me but I'm not gonna fish a Core or a Steez on a Lightening Rod or a Bionic Blade. I just can't bring myself to it, I felt weird fishing a Fuego on a FS TEC-SPEC rod. I think if your gonna fork it out for one, you should do the other justice. I don't have any experience with the swimbait rods but if my 7'M Zillion is any indication, it should make for a mighty fine setup. Quote
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted April 29, 2010 Super User Posted April 29, 2010 forget the zillion , get a Dobyns 795MLSB , that will handle alot of different baits up to 5 oz. , if you get it , you can thank me later ;D Quote

steezy Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 PLUUUUUTON...... Daiwa PLUTON on a Steez SVF 7'4" XHF swimbait rod. It's like a tow truck winch on a broom handle. Quote
