I'm thinking of getting a lightweight casting reel for throwing or pitching light crankbaits or plastics. Looking at the new 2010 Revo Premier or maybe the Shimano CORE 51 MG,( for maybe an extra $150??? more money).

What do you guys think of these two reels? Anybody have both of them? Is the extra cost really worth it?

the core all the way!!! i own five cores and they are the best reels ive used and i have used alot! dnt get me wrong i own a revo s, revo sx(worst reel ever), and a revo premier. the revo premier is a good reel but trust me it doesnt compare to the core. spend the extra money and get the core you be glad you did

I'd go with the Premier simply because I'm not a Shimano guy and I own 6 Premiers. I have not had issues from any of them.

Get a Core and never look back.  I've got the premier and a core 100mgfv.  I know it's not the Core that your looking at but just after using mine I already want to get a Core 50mg.  Now I can't speak on the 2010 version of the premier but my 2009 version doesn't compare to my Core.  The premier is a great reel but the core is worth the extra money.  I normally fish with Daiwa reels but after getting my Core and (2) 2500 CI4s I think I might gradually swap over to mainly shimano reels in the future.  They both are very light reels and you'd probably be happy with either one but in my opinion it's worth the extra money.

I don't know about the newer Premier but I own the 2009 version and it is not exactly easy to throw light baits with. I love it for 3/8oz and heavier but it gets touchy when throwing anything lighter than that.

If you want a reel that will throw light baits, buy the reel that was made to do it. A Steez, Core, or Sol would all be a great choice.

Just to give you another comparison I've got two SOL's and the core is smoother and casts light baits farther, but the SOL is definitely an awesome reel if you want to fish finesse baits or slow roll crankbaits. If you don't want to spend the money on the Core I'd buy the SOL over the premier if your okay with the lower gears.

I also had both...  sold the premier.  I wish the premier was a better reel, I wanted to replace the entire fleet with them.

I think the Core 50 and premier are 2 very different reels though...  you pretty much have to use braid (or light mono) with the core since it holds so little line.

The Core 50MG7 is my favorite baitcasting reel.
