Gonna put 30lb braid on my pro qualifier. So how much can I put on it?

The PQ, according to specs, holds 120 yds of 10# mono. 10# mono is ~.012" in diameter. 30# Power Pro is .011" in diameter.

120x.012=1.44

1.44 divided by.011=131

The reel will hold ~131 yds of 30# braid.

So thats what those silly math classes were for in school.  Calculating reel capacity.  Man, if I had only thought about it that way before.....

I didn't pay much attention to that sort of thing in school either. I took just enough math to meet the minimum requirements. Raul posted this formula a while back and I thought it would be useful to remember.

I just picked one as an example. I assumed all 30# braids are similar. The math works in any case. 8-)

What I meant was, being that 55lb has the same diameter as 10lb mono, why would a person use 30lb braid ..?

I wasn't doubting your math skillz... ;)

I'm using 30# ez braid. Because that was the heaviest wal mart had when i went through there at 1 am. I didn't put too much on there because it started bunching up on the right side to the point that it looked full on one side and barely on the other. But I use it for frogin as well.

You only need about 20 yards of backing.
