Bayou Bass Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Like the topic says I am wondering what is the quietest and smoothest braided line? Right now I am using 50lb Powerpro and I find it to be rather rough and loud coming through the guides. As the line "breaks in" it seems to get better, but I was wondering if there are any braided lines that are quieter then powerpro? Thanks folks Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted April 19, 2010 Super User Posted April 19, 2010 Try the Diawa Samuri..I use the 55lb..no noise, very limp. no break in. Not the cheapest..but for flippin, pitchen, and throwing swimbaits...I like it. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted April 19, 2010 Super User Posted April 19, 2010 facepalm. allow me to sum up approximately 50,000 posts that have been made about "the best braid" in the past year: Some guys prefer FireLine (the new stuff) because it has more body and is "smoother" than other braid brands that have fewer strands. (Fireline has 8). Also, the box is very pretty to some people, as evidenced by the frequency with which its image is posted... Same goes for Daiwa Samurai braid. It can be a little difficult to find and a tad spendy, but it has very good reviews and a faithful following. TackleTour likes Sufix braid. The tests over 50 are 8 strand braids and it has lots of loyal users and a glowing review from TackleTour. Lots of guys like the old fashioned PowerPro, usually because it is "limp" and very manageable. Some guys don't like it because it can be rough and loses its color fast but others use it anyway because it doesn't break and performs the way they want it to. Those are the most popular (or at least most argued about) brands...but there are others. there, now we don't need 5 pages of the same old same old. 8-) Quote
Bayou Bass Posted April 19, 2010 Author Posted April 19, 2010 I certainly appreciate your attempt at composing a witty and somewhat articulate post. However, you and I both know that almost ALL of the threads on this particular section of the board are repeats in one way or another. There is only so much that can be said about fishing equipment so it is only natural that this stuff becomes a bit redundant after a while. That being said, if you would read what I wrote I simply asked what is the "quietest" and "smoothest" braid out there. You might have interpreted this as me asking what is the "best" braid, but I am not concerned about that. I simply would like to know which one makes the least amount of noise coming through the guides Quote
Super User Dan: Posted April 19, 2010 Super User Posted April 19, 2010 And the Fireline guys are going to tell you it's FireLine. The Daiwa guys will tell you it's Daiwa. The PowerPro guys will tell you the sound doesn't bother them. A braided line's "smoothness," and "quietness" are regularly addressed in braided line threads. I wasn't necessarily trying to be aggressive towards you. The question doesn't annoy me, per se, the same arguments that always result in all the threads about braid make me angry. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted April 19, 2010 Super User Posted April 19, 2010 Anger managment classes..? Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted April 19, 2010 Super User Posted April 19, 2010 I use Fireline Braid and Samurai. Samurai is the smoothest, and quietest. No other superline is even close. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted April 19, 2010 Super User Posted April 19, 2010 Anger managment classes..? haha. I think braided line topics are just one of my "rage triggers" Sometimes I need to stop and remember that the search feature is not always that great at finding stuff. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted April 20, 2010 Super User Posted April 20, 2010 Yup. I've done searchs on some popular topics and got nada. Also, questions that are constanly repeated happen on all types of sites, motocycles, trucks ect..so I'm pretty use to them.. To the OP, sorry for the OT...carry on.. 8-) Quote
Bayou Bass Posted April 20, 2010 Author Posted April 20, 2010 The frustration is understandable gentleman. I belong to several fishing forums and certain topics tend to elevate my blood pressure. At the same time, I know that if we only posted stuff that is new and innovative we wouldn't have much to talk about ;D Quote
Super User RoLo Posted April 20, 2010 Super User Posted April 20, 2010 The quietest and smoothest braid is the "roundest" braid. And the roundest braid is the braid that consists of the most strands (if that's what you're after). When I was using PowerPro braid (2006, 2007, 2008) it was 4-strand braided polyethylene. It was my understanding that Powerpro planned on upping their strand-count, but I don't know if that ever came to pass. Now I use nothing but "Berkley Fireline Braid" which is 8-strand polyethylene braid (maybe higher today). I never hear any line-noise but then again, when I'm busy fishing my mind is far under the water ;D Roger Quote
kikstand454 Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 hahah... im a power pro guy... and so therefore.. i dont care about the sound of the line going through my guides. sorry... had to... Quote

Beastie Bass Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 PowerPro noisy? I never noticed. ;D My favorite lake has a highway next to it now. At night is when it gets on my nerves. Quote
