Anybody sucessful with chatterbaits?

My brother just called me and told me the local walmart has the chatterbait 26 piece kit on sale for $4. I was wondering if its even worth picking up.

But to answer your question....no I have never had any luck with them. You think they would work though....lots of vibration.

I actually had some luck with them this past fall, but the majority where dinks. I upgraded to the Booyah version in 1/2oz and started catching a larger but fewer. I fish them just like a spinnerbait; ripping on top, stop and go, slow rolling, etc. Heck for $4, I would buy several and give as gifts throughout the year. 1 regular chatterbait costs around $6.

Well who knows maybe they will work for someone else. I didn't exactly fish the crap out of it. For 4 dollars what's the hurt? Now I wouldn't spend 4 bucks on one bait but for the kit why not?

Either that or putting it towards a gallon of gas! ;D

If he doesn't like it or it doesn't produce. Sell the kit on ebay. You will make most of your money back on someone paying for the shipping and handling alone.

I would get that in a heartbeat thats is no brainer i'd get as many as they had I've had quite a bit of sucess with them and the chatter frog. I'm going up to walmart after work td and seeing if they have any left.

Yes. I have had a lot of success on these types of baits. the original Chatterbaits were great, but since they are now mass produced, they seem to be poor quality compared to some others, but for $4- what the heck.

My personal favorite is the Gambler Swim Blade.

the key to these baits iMHO is to fish them around cover. Wood and grass are best. the vibration is amazing, and the fish will come get it.

I have had zero success on my home lake on it, b/c it's mostly just rock.

I've had most of my success on it from early Spring through post spwan over submerged grass at Guntersville and KY lake.

if you fish grass, give it a try.

I have high confidence in the original chatter bait. I do agree with the people that say they do tend to catch smaller fish. However catching a 1-3 lbs bass does not bother me   Id rather catch small fish then get skunked!

Anyways for $4 get it. I know I would. I had to pay $20 for the kit so yea. It is a good deal.

The use of the Chatterbait almost won the Bassmasters Classic last year. Before they were copied, it was one of the most sought after baits in recent history due to it's effectiveness in early year tournaments in Florida. Does that give you a hint?

Do not use mono as it has too much stretch and you need power to set the hook.

I've only caught one fish with a chatterbait but she was a little over 5 pounds.  I don't have much confidence in it.  I've tried it so many times, and as soon as I switch to something else I start catching fish again.

I agree that the Booyah is better. I have a herd of the Chatterbaits and have caught a few on them, but the Booyahs are better. I've had my best luck fishing them jig like. Let them fall and work them like a jg then bring it in slow. I've caught a couple hogs that way. I think the Booyahs are better because of the flex they have built in and the paint stays on the a whole lot better.

I bought a chatterbait two years ago and have fished it in a number of areas and I would say that it works the best in areas that have submerged aquatic vegetation. Last summer I was getting skunked on the Potomac River by my partner on a spinnerbait. He had put 4 dinks in the livewell. I switched to the chatterbait and caught a 4lber on the first cast.

I fish it in the same conditions that you fish a spinnerbait. It comes through grass well but I tend to get it hung up brush. I caught my last two fish in December on the chatterbait in a pond. I would pop it off the bottom and let it sit for 30 seconds after it landed. I caught two in a half hour. I leave the stock skirt on and use a super fluke jr for the trailer.

Sam, I am surprised that you had to sharpen the hooks. The first 3 that I purchased were extremely sharp. Maybe they changed hooks.

I've fished with the orginal chatterbait and a few other imitations and I can honestly say that the Karu Lures vibrashock absolutely blows them out of the water. My hook up ratio's went up two fold to the point where I don't think I missed any fish and It's because the blade hits the head which not only attracts the fish, but the fish key in on this sound and hit the head of the bait instead of the tail which increases your hook ups. The bait has a ton of vibration that calls in fish from a long ways away and the quality of the paint and hooks is second to none. The blades won't bend like the original ones either and there is no wrong way to fish this bait.  Cast it out and reel it in. Plus Karu can pretty much custom make any color your mind can think of. For me the chatterbait has worked when other lures don't catch fish as well as catching my personal record. (in my picture) I believe in this lure and use it often.

yep, great bait, but in my opinion it really depends on the lake. Some lakes they seem to work well for me others not so much.  If your ever getting short struck on a spinnerbait, tie one on and see if they don't totally inhale it. This is how I find lakes where they seem to work well. I'd personally buy all the kits they had, but like someone said before, sharpen the hook.

Man that looks sweet. I have the perch colored realistix. Thinking of ways to fish them and this idea looks to be a winner.  8-)

The Stren series was on Falcon International a few weeks ago, the one with Thomas Redington, our very own Tom finished 19th in that event.

The winner, who was well over a 4 day total of 100 pounds was using two baits to fullfil his limits.

Half of those fish came on a chatterbait with a Lake Fork Magic Shad.   Which is a fluke type/swimbait type trailer.

I personally havent had any success on the bait.   But Chris (gf) has had some luck with it.    Enough that I can't say no when she asks to fish it.

Worth a better look maybe.
