thegr8cody Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 well first off im gonna start by naming my setup.its a cheapo but it does great for what i need it to.its a mitchell avocet II s2000 mated with a lightning rod 6'6" medium action.well today i bought some of the 20lb 6lb diameter.i mainly use it for saltwater.but after stringing up the powerpro i noticed it was really rough as my spiderwire stealth is smooth and it looked to be pretty ribbony too lol i noticed alot of noise just throwin it in the yard so i can only imagine hookin into a good fish.and im kinda nervous about it damaging my eyes on the pole it digging into them.so hopefully tomorrow after work im gonna run to the bayou and see whats its really made of or if i should go back to the stealth anybody share this feelng about the ppro braid Quote
Stasher1 Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 It'll soften up with use and get noticeably quieter. Quote
thegr8cody Posted April 20, 2010 Author Posted April 20, 2010 i sure hope so.i just read a few reviews of it on here and everybody seems to say its a pretty rough line. but it casts pretty good so far cant wait to get some actual bait on the hook instead of throwin a plain ol sinker Quote
Super User Dan: Posted April 20, 2010 Super User Posted April 20, 2010 what do you mean by "ribbony"? Quote
kikstand454 Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 i dont understand the whole "its noisy when i cast" thing... so what? its great line that works well... casts well... i mean... who cares about the little bit of sound? i guess i just dont get it. :-/ Quote
Stasher1 Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 Power Pro can be rather obnoxious coming through certain guides. The Fuji titanium-frame SiC guides that were on my BPS Johnny Morris rod were the worst I've heard. I wonder how much of that racket is transmitted back down the line and into the water for our little finned friends to hear? It seems as though it would work like the old "telephones" we used to make out of tin cans and a piece of string. Quote

The line will soften up and become more manageable, but some noise will remain. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted April 20, 2010 Super User Posted April 20, 2010 I guess they could, although I wouldn't use braid for moving lures Quote
BassThumb Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 I guess they could, although I wouldn't use braid for moving lures True. I rarely do, but I think braid is often the best bet for widely varied multi-purpose setups, like spinning setups for my guests who could go from fishing Senkos to spinnerbaits to lipless cranks to tubes to toads. northern basser Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 I also am new to braid. Last fall I switched a couple of my baitcasters to Power Pro. So far this spring I've switched most of my other set-ups to PP also. Noise going through the guides is my only complaint. Not a big enough concern for me not to use it however!! Quote
thegr8cody Posted April 20, 2010 Author Posted April 20, 2010 i mean ribbony as in not completely round.and im fine with the noise its just i know that the sound of it is friction and im worried about it damaging my eyes on the pole Quote
Matt Jungblut Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 i use braid on all my rods and reels spinning to baitcasting braid is on my rod i would never go back to mono since this post is about pp braid i will say its my second favorite braid i have tryed them all and have found only 1 i like better the noise doesnt bother me any and i havnt noticed any eye damage and i have been using braid for many years Quote
Dave D Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 I use 50-65 PP Braid on my jig and worm rods and I could not be happier. Made the switch about 3 years ago and this stuff is just plain tough. I know a lot of other folks have had issues with it but I really like it. Quote
thegr8cody Posted April 21, 2010 Author Posted April 21, 2010 well i was finnaly able to make it to the bayou yesterday to try out the powerpro and i was pretty impressed with the castability of the line.but i will say i am a firm beleiver in it now i caught about a 3lb bass on bed and and lets just say the power pro won that battle with ease Quote
