tradequities Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 ive used mono til now.. thinking about switching to braid.. any opinions? what do you guys use? Quote
BassThumb Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 Limp mono or CXX copoly for buzzbaits, and braid for buzzfrogs because I tend to throw the buzzfrogs in the heavy weeds, and stick to the weed edges and docks with buzzbaits. Quote
SimonDM17 Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 Braid. I haven't really thrown a lot of buzzfrogs, though--anywhere I can throw a buzzfrog (rage tail or horny toad) I can throw a buzzbait and get a better hookup ratio. But, absolutely braid for buzzbaits--I'm usually throwing them either alongside or in pads/weeds, and I don't want the fish to have a chance to dive down. I will add a heavy mono leader sometimes, though. Like if there's a lot of wood or thorns, or pickerel, or the bass are absolutely crushing the buzzbait and ripping holes in their mouth. The last one I add a mono leader because I feel like it helps absorb shock and keep a hole large enough to toss the hook from forming. Quote
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted April 17, 2010 Super User Posted April 17, 2010 30-50 lb. braid for both . braid keeps the bait on top more than co-poly or mono would plus it is alot stronger for dealing with grass and other rip-rap .... Quote
smallwatermayhem Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 A sturdy abrasion resistant monofilament is all you need. My vote goes to low-vis green 17lb Berkley XT. Quote
