Super User roadwarrior Posted March 25, 2010 Super User Posted March 25, 2010 Thank you for the correction. That makes a ton of sense. Consolidating their operation should help maintain better control. 8-) Quote

Super User new2BC4bass Posted April 14, 2010 Super User Posted April 14, 2010 looked at the diawa pfluger and shimano reels on line and have decided to go with the shimano saros. does it matter what model cause theres a lot of models of saros :-/ You might want to consider the Abu Garcia Soron STX at that price. Can be gotten on Amazon for less than $100, plus I just saw Abu was offering $10 rebate on reels over $90. Don't know if the offer is still valid. Check the reel out if you haven't purchased the Saros yet. I didn't take the time to compare them, but I did research the Abu last night and was impressed. Not to scare you off, but another thing I discovered last night is that both Shimano and Daiwa sell spinning reels costing $500.00. Whew! Quote

Several hundred dollars difference between the GL2 and the GLX. I'm not very familiar with them. Do own an older GL2 8wt. fly rod. You couldn't buy a bare GLX blank for $70. Quote
Super User David P Posted April 14, 2010 Super User Posted April 14, 2010 More expensive rod, cheaper reel is the way to go. Especially spinning reels . $150 Rod / $100 reel would be a pretty nice setup. I personally think baitcasters are much better all purpose and are more accurate, but if you're set on a spinning rod I'd recommend a Dobyns 703 Savvy Series rod with a Daiwa Tierra spinning reel. Great combo for the price you're looking to spend. Quote
