I share your sentiments on Shimano's left-retrieve availability, but I'm an Abu and Daiwa guy anyway :)

I reallly like my Winch -- smooth, comfortable, etc.  I' haven't caught too many fish that have tested the drag on it yet (fishing cranks), but I think the Revo drag system has been proven via all the other reels in the line.  I have no reason to think the drag will be an area of concern.

With that said, the reel isn't fantastic for casting lighter cranks.  It's OK, but not the best choice for 1/4 oz and less.  The higher line capacity makes this reel a good choice for swimbaits as well since it can hold enough bigger line.

I absolutely love mine!!! I have two and don't have anything negative to say about them. Revo has had some drag issues with their Premiers and Skeet Reese models. They use only two drag washers on these models instead of the 4+ used on all the rest of the Revo line-up. This makes no sense to me since these are the two most expensive models available but they never called and asked my opinion when they were designing them either. I need to order drag washer upgrade kits for 3 of my 5 Premiers. From what I understand the issue has been resolved in the 2010 models.

The Winch is super smooth, cast a mile and the long handle make them a pleasure to throw deep diving cranks with!

Trust me, you won't be disappointed!!!

It wasn't really wasn't a problem with the drags.  The drags just weren't comparable to the other Revos which were at about 24 lbs.  The older Premiers were at about 9 lbs or equal to what most other manufacturer drags were normally.

The E5 does come in a right hand retrieve, I own one and you can find them at most places that sell curados.

The winch is an awesome reel.  I have only caught fish up to about 3-1/2 lbs.  The drag on this reel is good.  I also own 2 STX's and 1 older model Premier.  I did have the drag updgraded on the Premier but no issues with the STX or Winch.  It is more suited to throwing heavier cranks.  Like it was said in a previous post, not too good with 1/4 oz or less.

Really??? Well, I'm not sure how many that you own but 3 out of the 5 that I have are bad. The first year or year and a half the drag worked fine on all of my Premiers but then 3 of them just continued to become more and more weak. I can tighten the drag all the way down and pull line off by hand like its set to about one quarter of it's max drag when new.

If your interested you can do a Google search and find all kinds if info. about Abu using only 2 drag washers on the 2 previous mentioned reels and what needs to be done to correct the problem. They used a cheap washer in these reels and they wear very quickly.

So, yes there WAS a problem with the drag washers. Like I said earlier, I've read that Abu has corrected the problem in reels that now leave the factory.

I bought a Winch last year after retiring my Lews Speed Spools for cranking.  I could not be happier.  The centrifigul brakes are easy to access and adjust, simple and effective.  The retrieve is very smooth and the drag is smooth, consistent with no stuttering.  I wanted a low gear ratio to ease the strain from all day deep cranking and those baits are generally 3/8 oz. or more and casting is a dream on 10 or 12 Yozuri.  I found the ratio is perfect for big spinnerbaits.  They wear me out as fast as a DD14 or DD22.  I'm buying another at the end of the month.  If this reel was $179.99 it would have won Tackle Tour's shootout.  Come on Pure fishing, get a $30.00 rebate going !! I wear prescription sunglasses. ;D

That's his problem exactly -- that the E5 ONLY comes in RH.
