I have a Abu Garcia premier reel and when I set the hook I always have to put my thumb on the spool to set the hook which sometimes I forget a lose a fish because the reel spool seems to slip.Is there a way to fix this cause I tried setting the star drag as far it can go and it still does is this a common accurance on all reel or just these?Any help would be great.

has the reel been taken apart?  Maybe the springs have been put on wrong, or there are some washers missing.  Check the springs and make sure they look like )(    and not like ((

the first generation premier had a very weak drag. They were trying to cut all the weight out they could, so they used less drag discs. You can order the drag discs and steel plates from a revo s, sx or stx and put in it. It will weigh a tiny bit more, but it will have a good drag.

the first question everybody should of asked is are you using braid ??? if you are , the problem might be that the braid is slipping on the spool  :)

Would you consider working on the reel yourself? If you are then there is a plethora of info on this site to help you through it.  It basically takes you by the hand and gives you DETAILED instructions on tackeling the task.

And, like the post above, what type of line do you have spooled?  If it is braid, did you spool it over another type or is it completely full of braid?

I have full spool of fluorocarbon line on it.Can that do it.I don't feel comfortable in doing it myself since I wouldn't know what I'm doing.I don't work on reels.
