hammer84 Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 Those look nice. I bought some off ebay this week tht are custom made for the Lucky Strike 5.5 bass magic baits. http://cgi.ebay.com/Weighted-swimbait-hooks-8-0-Basstrix-Bass-Magic_W0QQitemZ150208482690QQihZ005QQcategoryZ31691QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Quote
Super User Paul Roberts Posted January 27, 2008 Super User Posted January 27, 2008 I have the 6-1/2" LuckEstrikes and 5/0 is too short, I think. That's a lot of plastic, even semi-hollow as they are. Don't want 'em balling up at the point. I'm going to have to make my own I guess. I'm looking at a Kahle-style in 8/0 which I'll re-bend and belly weight. Wish me luck... Quote
Buckeye1955 Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 About time BPS came up with something for the swimbaits! I have been buying the Basstwitchers at jpjigs.com. They do a great job too. I really like the red ones. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted January 28, 2008 Super User Posted January 28, 2008 is 5/0 big enough for the 5.5" Bass Magics? I thought I might need a 6/0 Quote
Just_Old_Fisherman Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 I felt the 5/0 was just barely large enough for my 4.5" Bass Magic. Just got in some 6" Bass Magic and the 5/0 is much too small. Looking for a 7/0 or 8/0. Probably will order some of the new Lake Fork Tackle swim bait hooks, they have one that is like 11/0. Can be used as an anchor if needed. Paul R. as far as weighting hooks yourself, I have had good luck with taking the rubber insert out of the twist on weights then clamping it down on the hook shank. Have also taken the round tube weights with the hole lengthwise and cut one side down to the hole with a hacksaw and crimping that on the hook shank. Quote
hammer84 Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 is 5/0 big enough for the 5.5" Bass Magics? I thought I might need a 6/0 Check out my post above. They are 8/0 hooks and work great on the 5.5 baits. It is not my auction, I just found it on ebay. Quote
Super User Paul Roberts Posted January 28, 2008 Super User Posted January 28, 2008 Thanks, JOF. I've make my belly weighted hooks a bit more complicated. I use lead wire, tied on with tying thread, then epoxy. More durable that way. Cheaper than buying them at this point. It's only a matter of time until someone jumps on this and they'll become readily available. Unless the BassTrix etc... craze wears off. Where I live I'm not expecting many bites -just looking for a few big ones. We'll see. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted January 28, 2008 Super User Posted January 28, 2008 I have some of DOA's pinch weights for jerkbaits, but I'm sure they would work well on swimbait hooks as well. here's a link: http://www.doalures.com/pinch_weights.htm Quote
