BassThumb Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 I think once a person gets past it's disadvantages and annoyances, like the noise it makes in your rod guides, the epic backlashes and slippery knots, they realize it has plenty of advantages and begin to appreciate it as another tool that you can exploit to make you a better fisherman. Epic Backlashes & slippery knots? :-? Yep, remember when people used to glue their knots before they learned which ones worked and which ones might slip? Anybody who has used braid extensively should know how difficult it is to pull a serious backlash out. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted April 1, 2010 Super User Posted April 1, 2010 Today I have 26 reels with superline on them (spinning, spincast, and baitcasting) for presentations from finesse to matted vegetation. I use nylon mono and flurocarbon also on other rigs for presentations where they perform better such as lipped cranks, suspending jerks, and soft plastics such as Flukes. Quote
Uncle Leo Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 No, and I don't recall anyone posting anythingabout it either. I am spooled up with H2O and so fair seems good. I just have not used it long enough to make a proper assessment. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted April 1, 2010 Author Super User Posted April 1, 2010 Well now...We are going to get a great review from someone we trust. I say, WOO-HOO! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Quote
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted April 1, 2010 Super User Posted April 1, 2010 No, and I don't recall anyone posting anythingabout it either. I am spooled up with H2O and so fair seems good. I just have not used it long enough to make a proper assessment. Please keep us updated. As for the op, I love Power Pro. Most of my walleye rods are run with braid. One thing I did find out, is if you are fishing small lead heads, use a leader...I have had itty-bitty walleye jigs get stuck/snagged many times, and pulling on the rig, with braid, is a busted rod waiting to happen. A small diameter fluoro leader will snap, and I don't have to lose a bunch of braid by cutting my line. Quote
TheOriginalFishaholic Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 When I started baitcasting decades ago, I used Cortland chamo braid and I loved it, but when it became difficult to locate in my area I switched over to mono on my baitcasters and started to curse every time I got a backlash because they were more difficult to untangle AND the line easily got damaged far into the spool. In recent years on recommendation from quite a few anglers I tried PowerPro...broke on several hooksets and I got rid of it ASAP. Now, I'm using Stealth braid on a couple setups one with 50lb. test the other with 30lb. test...the hooksetting is awesome, and I can pull my fish out of some really nasty slop and timber without fear of losing the fish. The other reason I went to braid on my baitcasters is that I fish a lot of swimbaits and large surface baits...I'm less likely to lose a 39 dollar bait on 50lb. test braid than I am with mono. - being a shorebound fisherman, that's important to me...besides the extremely thin diameter of the new braids doesn't seem to bother the fish whatsoever. I love braids! ...but the reality is that braids are not right for every situation...monos and fluorocarbons have their place too. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted April 1, 2010 Super User Posted April 1, 2010 For those pesky snagged leadheads ect..and you have braid w/o a leader. Wrap a rag, or a small dish towel around your hand to prevent the line cutting you, then wrap the braid a few times around your hand so you can pull on the line, and save your rod. I pulled a good sized snagged swimbait out of some tullies when I snagged it with a 1/2 oz Jig.. Quote
kikstand454 Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 last time i hung my c-rig on the bottom with 20lb p.p. was during a tourney. boater said.. im not msessing up the spot to get it... i said... no problem. i then wrapped the line around the boat cleat and the boat snapped the line like a wet noodle. other times ive done this it has pulled up the entire branch i was hung on. either way........ works for me! NEPAfishfinder Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 I've been using Tuff Line Braid for 4 years and have no desire to switch. Outside of my UL trout setup i use it on my 4 other reels. My home lake has a lot of stumps so the braid has saved me money. I also like how it acts on my baitcasts. In addition i've had few line twists with my spinning gear. Quote
Josh Bassman Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 I gave up on braid also. Florocarbon does give you good sensitivity so I switched to that. RW have you tried YoSuri H2O? I like braid, and have started to use it for my light stuff also. I just use a 6lbs fc leader. The only thing I don't like is it floats. But the feel is so much better then mono or fc, I don't see myself giving up braid. Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted April 1, 2010 Super User Posted April 1, 2010 All of my rods except swimbait rods have Sufix Performance Braid. I cannot fish a jig or dropshot without a braided mainline anymore. Mono is like wearing a condom. Sure, you'll get the job done, but it just doesnt feel as good. Quote

YeahSure Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 No, and I don't recall anyone posting anythingabout it either. I posted a thread about it in this forum or the tackle forum but it got no responses, I'm also curious about this line. Quote

sundog49 Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 I just started using briad. Can anyone tell me how often to chang it? Mine has been on for about 6 months. Quote

Gale1980 Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 i use braid for slop fishing with frogs ect. also i will use it when toothy critters are present so i have a little better chance not getting bit off. i also feel backlashes are waaaaaaay fewer and far between. it is also easier to remove backlashes with braid in my opinion. power pro is the ONLY way to go with the braid also! Super User Hammer 4 Posted April 3, 2010 Super User Posted April 3, 2010 . power pro is the ONLY way to go with the braid also! Only until you try Diawa Samuri... Quote
kikstand454 Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 I just started using briad. Can anyone tell me how often to chang it? Mine has been on for about 6 months. i change mine about once a year. and by change i mean i tie one end to the fence.... walk the spool out... cut it... walk back over ... and tie the used part back to the spool and reel it in. i get about two years out of a spool of 15lb power pro. pretty cost effective eh? Super User Wayne P. Posted April 3, 2010 Super User Posted April 3, 2010 How long with braid last? I don't know. I was fishing in Florida in early 2004, went by the Bass Pro Shops in Orlando and saw the gold color Stren Superbraid 30# in stock. I got a spool of it so I could see it better than the green color. I'm still using it. I may have to replace it sometime this year depending on any break-offs or re-ties. It has faded some, but is still as good as when I started using it after several thousand bass caught. Quote
