Super User firefightn15 Posted March 29, 2010 Super User Posted March 29, 2010 Had been thinking of one of these forever and just never acted on it. Stopped at the local Gander Mountain over noon looking for my issue of Musky Hunter and there on the clearance rack were these Chronarch's paired up with Compre rods for $200. I think I done good. LAO162 Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 Wrong hand retrieve Congratulations on a sweet combo Quote
VABasser Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 Back in January my local Gander had that same combo for $200 as well. There was also a store wide sale going on which bumped the price of each combo to $150. I bought one when they were about to close. That night I couldn't sleep thinking about what a good deal it was so I went back the next day and bought another. ;D I think you will be pleased Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted March 29, 2010 Author Super User Posted March 29, 2010 Thanks guys, I've been something of a hold out on Shimano bc's for a while but have wanted to try this model for lighter apps. The Compre that it came with is a mxf so I am thinking it may be my new favorite open water plastics rig set up with 8# Yozuri ultrasoft. Kent, I think I have read some posts where you suggest 6# when there will be very little hard structure to deal with; any thoughts? Quote
Georgia Jeff Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Are you talking about the Shimano Chronarch 50mg? I thought they quit making those about two years ago? Quote

I think your "new" reel needs serviced, the grease and oil may have dissipated over time. Regarding line...I think #12 is a better choice. #6 just doesn't work well for me on baitcasters. Plus, you'll use a whole spool if you go too small. Oh, and BTW, the CH50MG is one of my favorite reels. Even at its original pricing point, I have always consider this reel a "Best Value". 8-) Quote

Super User firefightn15 Posted March 31, 2010 Author Super User Posted March 31, 2010 Stopped at the local Gander Moutain to pick up a copy of Musky Hunter and there were these Chronarchs.......oh boy, not two days in a row! I played with the first one enough last nite that I went back and bought another today. Wished I had got serious about these a few years ago, they are sweet little reels. 8-) Quote
BassThumb Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Heck of a deal there. You can even sell the rods if you don't like them and still come out way ahead. Quote

You should go and clean them out!!!!!!!!!! Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted April 1, 2010 Author Super User Posted April 1, 2010 I already put off paying for half of my root canal with the first one and now with the second one they are gonna have to wait their 30 days. ;D Heck, if I buy anymore they may try and take their root canal back and that don't sound too good. Took one of them out to the pond behind my shop after I got done today and played with it. Other than needing to get it on one of my 7' rods that is one sweet casting reel. Definitely not sorry.
