YeahSure Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 I'm looking to get a 7:1 Gear ratio reel to throw on a topwater setup for the time being and was looking at different options. I already own a curado E7 and love it, but I'm open to other options also. I've heard good things about the SX, and the new model this year looks great. I was also looking at the STX, is the STX > SX by a large margin? Would it be foolish to not purchase the STX for the extra 30 dollars if I were to go the Abu garcia route instead of Shimano? Any input is really appreciated Quote

The only difference is that Abu Garcia has sweetened the deal with a set of Wiley X Glasses for free with purchase of any reel over $159.99. I already owned an SX before this, and it has worked perfect for me since the start, so I decided to get another to take them up on this deal. But if that doesn't interest you, I'd say stick with what you already know and go with the Curado. Quote

The new STX has the dual braking system vs. only magnetic breaking on the new SX I had both last years model SX and STX at one point, but didn't like the braking. It is my understanding that once you get it dialed in it is money, I just could never get it dialed in. I switched to Shimano, including an E7, and love them. The new dual braking STX is intriguing, but I will stick with what works for me right now. Just my .02. Quote

Just my .02. that is true of the SX , it is money , i can cast the SX farther than any reel i have ever casted , and now that i'm gonna have it "super tuned" , it is gonna FLY !!!! Quote

The magnetic brake was upgraded for better control. Quote
b.Lee Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 I have both the revo sx new model and the e7 both great reels, can't complain with either. But they do different things so yeah. I flip and pitcj with the e7 and spinnerbait, worm, and other stuff with the revo both perform beyond what I need. Quote
bwell Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 I have a '09 STX and love this reel! I got it on sale for 99 bucks around Christmas time at Gander Mountain. I use this as my worm reel and can cast a weightless senko a mile! I can even cast into the wind with no problems... Quote

I'm strongly debating on whether or not to go Shimano or just get an Abu for now just because of the sweet deal they have with the Wiley-x's.. Because I also do not own a pair of polarized glasses. lightsout Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 You cant go wrong either way. I own the SX and E7, and they do the job. But based on past experience with revos and other dual brake reels the STX would get my cash. It's the most user friendly system I've used. Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 STX is by far the best of that group. The SX to me backlashes a lot easier and does not cast as far as the STX. I had 10 SXs until i tried one STX, i switched them all. Quote

After two years my STX is finally dialed in, but it still likes to mess with me on occasion. I have it set up to use for one technique only... As a dedicated reel, it's still just "okay". 8-) Quote
