Nine Miler Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 For the last two weeks or so, every time I have gone to ***.com, I have had to take a look at this rod they have had on sale. Well, yesterday I placed an order. I have never used an All-Star rod before, but for <$70 I had to give 'em a try. Is this series discontinued or something? What can I expect from this rod? Fuji Sensa-Touch seat, Alconite guides, stainless hook keeper, premium cork, I read somewhere it is IM-10... http://www.***.com/All_Star_Platinum_Series_Casting_Rods/descpage-ASPSCR.html Quote
tbird Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 While I have a few All Stars I don't have a Platinum but have handled one a few times at my local tackle store. IMO it was light, crisp and sensitive and appears to be well made. This was All Star's top end rod and is now discontinued. You got a good deal and should be happy with it especially for the price you paid. T Quote
Matt Jungblut Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 i have that rod in spinning been out a few trips with it and i like it so far couldn't be happier with the rod so I'm sure you will like yours i Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted March 28, 2010 Super User Posted March 28, 2010 I also picked up the spinning version from TW a few weeks ago and have really enjoyed it. Awesome deal! Quote
Beastie Bass Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 I have a few Team All Star casting and spinning rods. I like them, but not as much as my Avids I have been looking for a rod in THAT size and action. Not wanting to spend a lot of cash right now. This might be a great find... I like the palm swell in the handle, it looks like an Avid handle almost. I need a cheaper rod for the work truck and this might get the nod..... Quote
Leever Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 Does anyone else know anything helpful about these rods?? Quote
LAO162 Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 In my limited exposure with Platinums, I would say that their sensitivity is competitive with the Techna AV. For a given power, the Platinum blanks are thinner than the Techna AV, but probably weigh about the same (which is quite light). The ones I briefly used handled nicely and had stiffer tips than the Techna AVs. I wasn't impressed by the cork on the Platinums, but it was adequate. I could fish with all Platinums and not feel handicapped by my equipment. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted March 29, 2010 Super User Posted March 29, 2010 That's the P785. I have one. Love it. You'll think you're using one of those high end rods. I toss shakey heads, spider grubs, tubes, small worms or even senko's with it. Quote
tbird Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 I too have eyed the Tackle Warehouse sale on Platinums for a while ,heck I almost bought one at retail of $159 a year ago. This thread got me fired up enough to go ahead and get me one and if you want one use this code for 10% off http://www.***.com/2010wrap/ With the free shipping and 10% off I paid $61.99 Quote
