Standout G.Loomis Rods

What other model G.loomis rods are standouts besides the GLX Jig and Worm rod? Are any of the technique specific ones like the Jerkbait or Topwater rods worth the money?

BCR854/ Curado E7: jigs

MBR844C/ STX: weighted soft plastics

MBR784C/ CTE200GT: striper rod (live bait)

MBR842C/ Core 50MG7: shaky heads, drop shot and moving soft plastics

PR844C/ Core 100: topwater

PR844S/ Stella 2500FD: live bait and light artificials

My other rods are four Avids and two Legend Elite, one Dobyns, Lamiglas and a Fenwick.

i use and recommend:

bsr852 - light jig/plastic

bcr803 - all around jig/plastic

mbr783 - all around rod

mbr844 - big baits/heavy cover

edit:

ive heard good things about the shakey head models (SHR) and negative about the older frog models.

I am a big G Loomis fan and have quite a few models (and used quite a few more).  Here is my list of rods that stand out to me (above other G Loomis Rods).

1. BCR893 GLX - I am convinced that you will not find a better Senko rod.  If you pair this rod with a Core or Steez, you will think you died and went to fishing Heaven.

2. BSR852 GLX - I think this is the best spinning rod made by G Loomis.  Really good rod for many finesse applications, such as shakyhead, drop shot, and light weight plastics.

3. MBR783 GLX - I use this for spinnerbaits, which is a technique I feel it excels, but this is the most versatile rod in the whole G Loomis line-up.  You can use this rod for anything and if I am shore fishing or am in a situation I can only bring one rod, this it the one I bring. 

4. BCR803 GLX - I use this rod for lightweight plastics and for pitching into light cover.  I have this one paired up with a Core 50 and it is just an unbelievable combo.  This rod really outshines all the other baitcasting rods in the Jig and Worm series (except of course, the BCR893).  I have the BCR854 GLX, which is a great rod, but there is something that the 803 has that is lacking in the 854 (or any other rod in the series).

5. SMR814C-CB - I love this rod for topwater and jerkbait duties.  I don't hear many people talk about this rod, but it really suits my needs when it comes to treble hook lures that I jerk or twitch.  It really has a great action for those applications and can handle a large range of lure weights comfortably (a LC Pointer 78 up to a LC Pointer 128).  The only way this rod could be any better is if was offered in GLX.

Those are my five stand-outs from all the G Loomis rods I used.  Granted, I haven't fished with them all and am not as experienced in every model as some (I can't wait to hear what Bronzefly has to say), but from the ones I have used, these are my five favorites.  I also have a few more models in my possession (particularly the CBR896DF, BCFR954 GLX, and the BCR875 GLX) that I have not used yet, but I am hoping these will be stand outs as well.

The only one I have is the 854GLX Jig and Worm, but I feel that it is versatile for some heavier baits.

Currently in PA, the waters are cold.  On the last couple of trips, I have been using a 1oz jigging spoon on this rod. You can feel it wobble on the up-pull and flutter on the fall.  Daddy like...

Since you indicate an interest in rods other than the BCR Jig & Worm series, i'll only briefly list a few of my favorites there -

BCR 855 GLX, BCR 893 GLX, BCR 803 GLX

I've had the opportunity to feel most of the new topwater and jerkbait series, but not to fish them just yet. I do have the TWFR 935C - it's a completely different animal from the old frog rod - which was terrible. I've used it to toss smaller hard swimbaits and have been impressed with it - it's going to be an outstanding hollow body frog rod.

I'm a huge fan of the MBR GLX rods. I use them most often for moving baits and couldn't be happier with their performance. I feel like they can cover a very wide range of techniques extremely well, are very light and sensitive, and offer all the benefits of a GLX rod.

The MBR 782 GLX is a great jerkbait, smaller crankbait, smaller spinnerbait/buzzbait rod - but is also a sweet 1/4 oz jig rod if necessary.

The MBR 783 GLX has been mentioned, but between it and the MBR 843 GLX, they are among the best "all purpose" bass rods I've ever used.

The MBR 842 GLX is another outstanding rod in the lineup. I toss everything from bandits to silver buddies on this rod - topwaters to shakey heads.

The CBR 845 is an amazing mid-depth crankbait rod - things like the DT-10 or Deep Little N feel absolutely in the zone with this rod.

I could go on about more of their rods as I've had the pleasure of fishing with the vast majority of the bass rods they offer. I hope this helps.

I positively love my Bronzebacks, too.  I've got 4 or five in the series now, and I end up using them a lot for largemouth with lighter techniques.

I say that and I now own all Steez rods except for this 1 GLX which you will have to pry from my cold dead hands.

The only one I own is BSR803 but I like it for plastics and small tubes. A "niche" rod for sure.

I use mine most often for jerkbaits and crankbaits - however, in the winter, i'll use it for silver buddies and 1/4 oz. jigs.  I can shakey head with it, throw smaller spinnerbaits and buzzbaits, smaller topwaters.  It's one of those rods that will have a place (or two ) in my aresnal for a long time to come.

i seem to be addicted to carbon scrim.

Thanks for your input on the 935, Because I love throwing hollow body frogs and still have the 863.

One more Loomis I would add to the mix is the SMR702C-TW. That being said I have not had a chance to check out the new Top Waters yet.

Its just one of those rod that if I want to walk down to the water and fish and Im not sure of what lure or technique and I only want to take 1 rod then its the MBR842C GLX for sure. Its not the perfect rod for everything but it can handle almost anything. It will cast everything a mile from weightless plastics to small swimbaits. I tried an 843 but it didnt handle the light stuff as well.  You just gotta get one Lucky Craft Man or your GLX collection will not be complete.

One more Loomis I would add to the mix is the SMR702C-TW. That being said I have not had a chance to check out the new Top Waters yet.

I accidentally snagged a 20+ pound carp on Guntersville a couple weeks ago with the TWFR 935 and a small swimbait.  It gave me a great idea of how the rod would perform under a load - outstanding!  I'm impressed with it so far - it loads up and launches those hollow body frogs and feels like it has the right mix of tip and backbone for the technique.

That little SMR 702 is a fun rod too - great for little poppers, walkers, etc.  8-)
