I bought two from a guy for $50 both have the same problem, no matter how tight you turn the spool tension knob it wont add pressure. I took the knob off another curado and it didn't do any thing to fix the problem. since they both have the same problem i am guessing that he tried to clean them and reassembled wrong. any one have any thoughts.

That reel has 2 copper shims and a spring, the spring is toast or it 's missing one of the shims. The spring becomes toast when you leave the tension knob tightened during storage, reason why you should back the tension knob and the drag after you finish fishing.

While you are at it ( ordering the spring and/or the shims ) do yourself a favor, purchase the anodized aluminum tension knob cap, check the schematics of a Castaic 200 BSF for the part number ( the cap is compatible ) and change that EL CHEAPO plastic tension knob cap.

when I switched knobs with a working curado that should have fixed it or did I miss something maybe I didn't switch springs I will have to try again.

All the spring does is add tension to the CC Cap so it doesn't back off and come off on it's own or loosen and lose the adjustment.

There should be a copper shim, and black pressure backer in the cap. If the shim has a dimple in it this will be the reason for the lack of adjustment in the cast control cap. the shim and sometimes the black backer will need to be replaced for proper adjustability....

Also with all that said if the shim on the palming side is worn out (heavy dimpled) that will be factor 2 in the reason for no proper adjustments. Replace both shims at the same time............

Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
