braid issues

im getting sick of wind knots. >

it seemed after every other cast , the line would knot up like no tomorrow. the last wind knot, i got cought on a snag and now the knot is super tight. any way to fix it? i tried picking it out with my finger nails , but that didnt work and i would hate to have to cut that much line off.

im using a 6'6" light/fast spinning rod with a abu 801 spooled with 15/4 PP and 6lb cxx leader joined with a uni-uni.

Learn to make a cast and stop the cast with your index finger on the spool lip. That will eliminate the slack line which leads to the so-called "wind knots".

ive been doing that but i still get them before i would even want to stop the cast. im thinking i may be casting too hard into the wind , but i wouldnt imagine it would knot up this bad.

You might wanna try heavier line...it might help. But I know when I got the lines I would stick a needle through and make it loose enough I could pull it through with my fingers. It never seemed to weaken the line and it sure made the job a lot easier

If you are getting them during the cast, that means that you have let some of the line wrap around the spool removal button or knob when you were winding in. That loose line on the spool front is your knot cause. Make sure the line is faily snug on the spool before you start winding. Close the bail by hand, do not turn the handle to close the bail.

no line wrapped around anything. it may have just been loose on the spool. but i always close the bail by hand.

im still new to tying knots that join leaders to main line , so some of them are larger than others. can those large knots going through the guides be the problem too?

got the larger knot out , but there are still a couple that are too small. looks like someone did a single over hand a couple random times.

would soaking the line make things better? and do these knots weaken the line?

When you close the bail by hand, do you run your palm over the spool edge to make sure the line is started inside the spool edge?  Does the line have some tension on it before you start winding?

I don't use wimpy superline, but with 30# you can usually just pull the knot out with some effort, wetting may help. If it does break, tie the ends together with a 5 turn uni-uni knot and the knot will be so small it will go unnoticed.

I've been using superlines since they were introduced Anthing and everything that can happen has happened to me at some point.

I like Power Pro fine for heavier lures such as SPRO Frogs, but when it comes to lighter stuff, Fireline is way better.

It isn't the line, it's the reel.  I use nothing but braid and nothing but spinning, the 801 is great reel, I have an 802 and 804 but the spool on the 801 is not wide enough, that is what causing the wind knots.

I also have supremes 35,30......never a wind knot and 25 constant wind knots, it's a small spool also.  I just deal with it as I never would go back to mono.

keep a couple safety pins (of different sizes) in your tackle box. They should help pick out knots.

it is an excellent reel imo.  what line would you recommend?

i would hate to go back to mono since its on a light/fast rod , i need as little stretch as possible.

I use power pro and just except the wind knots on a small spool reel, part of the downside.  Imo the majority of the knots come from popping a top lure or twitching a lure, not a straight retrieve.
