bweave09 Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 I'm looking for a rod to throw texas rigs, jigs, and possibly carolina rigs on, but I don't have a whole lot of money. Anybody have suggestions for the $100-$150 range? Thanks! Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted March 25, 2010 Super User Posted March 25, 2010 Someone had an Avid for sale last week in our Flea Market for $105. With a little patience, you could buy one inside your budget. I specifically recommend the AVC68MXF, but either AVC70MF or AVC70MHF would be just fine. For just a few dollars more, I suggest G. Loomis IMX MBR844C. 8-) Quote
tbird Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 With your budget I would go with a Falcon Lowrider. T Quote
Bronzefly Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Without question I'd go with either a Shimano Crucial or a Powell Max rod. Which one would depend on the weight range and length you need. Quote

Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted March 25, 2010 Super User Posted March 25, 2010 704 Powell Max, Kistler Magnesium, or Dobyns Savvy. These three rods are very similar and are great rods for contact baits. I have the Dobyns and Kistler and a buddy has two of the Powells, if you have a chance to handle them, you'll see that the all feel alike but just a bit different. Quote
MSPbass Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 A Fenwick Techna AV can be had in that range right now. Even saw a few for $99 this week. Check Google. Quote

Super User Jig Man Posted March 25, 2010 Super User Posted March 25, 2010 I am partial to Fenwick HMG rods for under $150. I have 9 of them. Two I just bought on Monday. Quote

That's another excellent choice ,their light and sensitive T I've got two There are usually some available in the $100 range from reputable sellers on eBay. The bad news about the Techna AV - If you dodn't feel the bite you can't blame the rod (look at the bait placement ) Quote

Gotta admit they are nice rods though. ;D Quote

Super User ww2farmer Posted March 26, 2010 Super User Posted March 26, 2010 I have been out a couple times now with my Kistler Mag. Ts's and have been pleasently surprised with them. Much better than the Fenwick HMX's I replaced, and better than the Mojo's I have. I would say they are just a touch below my Avid's, but not much, and for the $$ are a nice rod. Quote
MojoGarcia Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 RW I bought the avid. I'm hoping I'll have a good time with it. 105 was not a bad deal at all. I've got an IMX in MH 7'1. I'm guessing they'll be relative to each other. Probably use one for flippn n the other for spinnerbait. we'll have to test it out though. excited.. Quote
