I'm looking to get a new topwater rod that can also possibly pull double duty on another technique if needed. I haven't done too much looking around but I got recommended to the Powell Max glass spook-trap rod.. Looks like a decent rod but does anyone else have any recommendations for me? Thanks for any input  :)

For all treble hooks you should us either

Moderate Action or Fast Action with a soft

tip. I prefer Medium Power for topwater.

My main rod is an Avid AVC66MF. This is a

versatile rod for everything except jigs and

soft plastics fished on the bottom.

I use a G Loomis SMR 814C-CB for both topwater and jerkbaits.  I like a moderate fast action for treble hook type lures and this rod really does well at techniques that requires rapid jerks (like a Zara Spook or jerkbait).  I don't know what your price range is, but that is what I use and could recommend to another.

I finally dove into custom rod building. I have been using the MHX blanks from mudhole and they rock. Amazingly light and sensitive, but still strong. I like a moderate fast tip as well, but sometimes I will use my spinnerbait rod, which is slightly stiffer, so I can work the bait better after a long cast, its also easier to maintain a good cadence with a slightly stiffer rod.

I had the rod you speak of but sold it. It was too soft for my liking. I am against the majority for treble hook lures. I use a Daiwa graphite rod in 7ft MH/F and 17lb Trilene big game line. The line is stretchy but strong and cushions the hooks from pulling out. I need the stiffer backbone because i fish around a lot of vegetation. It is perfect for me(also good for spinnerbaits).

All my TW fishing is done with an old AllStar Zell Rowland Topwater Special.  I've had that rod for almost 20 years and I can't count the number of bass it's pulled in.  Topwater, jerkbaits and shallow crankbaits, it's outstanding.  They may make the same rod these days, but the name/model will be different.

A medium weight fast is best. Length doesn't matter. I like 7'.

I have a Berkeley MH-fast 7' that will work. I have All-star heavy fast that will not cast top water baits. Works for weighted worms though .
