I'd say that's contingent upon water clarity and cover.  But as a general rule, I use Med/Light 6' 8" rods (G-Loomis and Fenwick Techna AV) paired with Abu-Garcia reels spooled with 8-10 lb P-Line.

Again...a general rule.  I'll go down in line weight in ultra-clear water, and use shorter, med action rods w/10 lb line for heavier cover with dingy water.

It's more or less matching your line and equipment to the conditions.

glenn couldnt have put it any more better than that! i dont use just spinning gear, but my main spinning setup is a 6'8" st croix mojo bass rod paired with a pflueger supreme reel with either 6 or 8 lb test, depending on cover. hope this helps!

It's more or less matching your line and equipment to the conditions.

For me it's the size of my target fish as well.  I use nothing but spinning with braid and I fish for a wide variety of fish.  One has to find their own brand of choice, most today are really pretty good.

Around 6' medium action with 6-10 lb line. I've gone up to 14 lb on a spinning reel...but do not recommend it for more than a special occasion (when we had a tourney on a weedy lake with bigger fish I's put on the 14 for the weekend, but switch a soon as we were done).

I like the 2500 size reels...usually the next to smallest.

My rod locker only holds 7 combos, and only 2 will be baitcasters. I carry a 6'6"ul-4#mono (until june), 2- 6'6"m 6&8#mono,7'ml-6#mono (dropshot),7'm-8#mono,7'm-braid (jig/worm). All the lakes i fish are clear, and i'm sure my arsenal would change quite a bit if they weren't. Later.....

While Glenn might be targeting smallmouth bass in deep, clear water,

we're generally dealing with shallow, murky water laden with heavy vegetation.

When living in New Jersey, I rarely used spinning line heavier than 8-lb Trilene XL (save saltwater),

but our mainstay in Florida is 30-lb Fireline braid (no leader).

Time of year and water clarity make the difference in what I do no matter if it is spinning or baitcasting.  I go from 6# mono to 12# mono.  I also run braid from 8# to 30# with or without a leader depending on water clarity and bait.

On average in warm weather with shallow fish, I like a 6/6" MF St Croix Avid or Gloomis IMX with braid and a 10-12# fluro leader.

I use a 6'6" medium heavy, fast action rod, Diawa Light & Tough being my favorite, with Pfluger Supreme or President reel spooled with 8 - 10 lb Yo-Zuri Hybrid.

I don't use all spinning combos, but I have a few.

7' MHF St. Croix Avid/Shimano Sustain 2500/20 lb braid. For dock skipping and snap jigging heavy tube jigs.

6' MF Loomis GLX/Shimano Sustain 2500/10-15 lb braid with 8 lb. fluoro leader. For shake worms.

7' 6" MLF Custom/Shimano Saros 2500/8 lb fluoro. For drop shot, tube jigs, and flukes. Originally for river smallie wade-fishing.

6' 6" MLF St. Croix Premier/old Shimano Stradic 2500/8 lb. CXX. For small, light jerkbaits and poppers in light cover.

6' LF Scheels Guide Series/Pflueger Maxx/4-6 lb. CXX. For panfish and occasional light finesse bass fishing.

Like most angling equipment, it really boils down to personal preference.

I purchased two Okuma Concept C3 rods, one for my wife and one for myself.

We both agree that the C3 is a "great" all-purpose spinning blank,

however, my wife found the carbon grip to be uncomfortable, so now I have two Okumas..LOL

In my opinion though, the only rival of the Okuma Concept C3 "in that price range",

is the Damiki Dark Angel, both are superb general-purpose spinning blanks.

I use Shimano spinning reels and Shimano 6'-8" or 7'-0"  medium/heavy rods with 50# white braided Spectra line (about 12# dia.) on all reels for all baits.  I know it is completely unorthodox but it works for me.  I have never broke off a fish and I also catch just as many as my friends. Water here (S. La) is usually mixed to murky to muddy.  Fishing mainly spinnerbaits and creature baits.

I'm in central Louisiana and most of the water I get to fish is murky to muddy or at best stained. I have a 6' medium Matzuo rod (need a new spinning reel for it), a 7' medium Shakespeare combo and a 6'6" medium fast Lew's combo. All spinning reels. My favorite is the Lew's. I have 50lb Power Pro Spectra braid moss green color on all of them. I sometimes put some Trilene XL 14-20lb leaders on, but not much seems to work for me right now. I am new to bass fishing and guess I just gotta learn the ropes a bit more. I like your setups using all braid. I think I'm gonna stay with just braid too, unless I come across some clearer water.

It's a 6.6 ugly stick mh.with a shimano Stradic,spooled with 10 lb yo-zuri hybrid line.

But  I confess, I also have some bait casting combos too.

i usually fish with a dozen baitcaster and 3 of 4 spinning depending on the type of water we fish. My wife can handle a fly rod beautiful as well as most any spinning but refuses to pick out any backlash from a baitcaster.

 

So I have had to be a bit selective to get her as good an arsenal as mine.

First we both fish a pair of G Loomis Spin Jig Rod series spinning rods. All four were originally purchased back when our boat could only store a 6' rod.

 If I did it today we would get the same rod tapers in the 6'56" versions

So here are all of her setups.

 

G Loomis SJR 721  That is a 6 foot medium light/ fast action rod. Used for Ned Rigs, Kalin 5 inch Lunker Grubs, weightless worms, drop shots and some other lures. This is matched with a Pflueger President 30 series reel and 14 pound Berkley Original Fire Line.  Most of the time it has a 5 foot P Line CXX 8 pound leader.

 

G Loomis SJR 722.  That is a 6' medium/ fast action rod used for almost all other finesse baits like light weight texas rigged creature baits and worms, tubes, shakey heads.  This too is matched to a Pflueger President but a 35 series and the same Fire Line/ CXX line combo.

 

Her next rod is a Berkley 6'6" Medium moderate action Lightning Shock Rod. This allows her to fish cranks, traps, some spinnerbaits, smaller topwater baits like a Pop R.  This is matched with a President 35 series reel and the same line and leader setup. Sometimes the leader is not used.

Her jig rod is a special one. Irod make some really nice specialty rods. In this case the rod is a Genesis II IRG 713S. It is a 7 foot MH rod designed to throw baits weighing 3/8- 1 1/4 ounces. This had the perfect action to fish jigs, big texas rigs, even a chatterbait. If you need a spinning rod to fish heavier baits this thing is great. It is matched to a Shimano Symetre 3000FL. Fortunately I have had no issues with ours yet. My fingers are crossed as they were discontinued due to binding issues the factory could not find a solution for. Stay away from Shimano reels, at least these anyway. This rod has 30 pound Power Pro Spectra braid

 

No arsenal is complete without a rod that can throw frogs, carolina rigs, and big jigs. We found the perfect match to my Dobyns Champion XP series DC 705C in a Sierra SA 705SF. That thing works a hollow bodied frog or a big jig as good as my DC 705C baitcasting rod.  To get the same "inches of line per turn of the handle"  we chose a Pflueger Supreme 35 size reel and spooled it up with more of the Power Pro Spectra braid. 

Each rod has its own place in a good rod arsenal.  Now she has most everything she needs.

I hope this gave you some ideas on how to fill in your rod and reel arsenal.  I am fortunate I have a local dealer that stocks all of most all of these rods so I can go put my grubby pawls on them.
