do you think using only spinning reels is not "popular"

I have been using spinning reels for 16 years. The only other reels I used before that were the zebco reels every kid learns to fish on. I have a baitcaster reel, But am much more comfortable with spinning reels. I know baitcasters are primarily used, but if you saw someone only using spinning reels, would you think it's weird or not "popular" by bass fishing standards?

Don't know what you are trying to say but I only use spinning out fits and really don't care what some body else thinks about what I use . I sure don't care what they are using.

It's all a personal preferance .

I would say using exclusively spinning reels is not popular with more serious fishermen and tourney fishermen.

The reason being that they may not be the correct reel for certain applications. I know if I'm flipping wood I want a baitcaster with braid...but that's just me. Then again, in my neck of the woods it's also unpopular to use exclusively baitcasting reels. It comes down to the correct tool for the job.

I've been fishing for over 30 years and I just got my first baitcaster this past November. Many people fish spinning gear exclusively, and there will always be a place for it.

I only bought the baitcaster to expand my arsenal. I will always have a spinning rig on the boat.

As far as someone snickering at someone else for using spinning gear as if that makes them a lesser angler somehow, that's not even worth a response. Anyone that would do that has no idea what they're talking about.

Depends on the location.  Plenty of "serious tournament" anglers up here use spinning gear exclusively, especially tournaments on Lake Ontario and Erie.  Use appropriate gear for the appropriate situation.

I have 8 baitcaster and 5 spinning outfits in the boat.  There are days when I never break out a baitcaster; and many a tournament that's been won on spinning gear.

I know there are some folks that hate spinning gear (including my father), but that's a minority.  If you want to consistently catch bass, you need to be versatile and master both.

I personally prefer to use spinning reels even though I have 2 nice BC setups. I'm not all that proficient casting with the BCs and my spinners never let me down. Most of the other guys who fish the lake I do use BC setups. I've NEVER had anyone say anything about my spinning useage. However, when I do use the BCs, I really like the smoothness of the retrieve and the lack of line twist that sometimes plauges my spinning reels. I do NOT like those pesky "bird's nests" that almost always incapacitate the one BC that I usually take along each trip.

I know alot of guys that only use spinning gear, even for muskie. I have both because in certain situations I prefer baitcasters. Who cares what others think, use what you feel comfortable with. 8-)

I don't think its unpopular to just have spinning reels on your boat. I use both because in some situations i like to use spinning and in other i like to use baitcasters. It's just personal preference.

I have a friend that I fish with a few times a year that doesn't use baitcasters. He is one of the best fishermen I know.  I would consider him a serious bass fisherman. He is very intuitive about finding fish, and proper presentation. He doesn't fish tourneys, but I promise you he would do fine if he did. I think there are times when he would be better equipped if he used BC for heavier cover/lures etc. When I tell him this, he laughs and keeps catching fish. 8-)

I use both and would have a tough time only using one or the other.

There are two in my rod box, they rarely come out.  And then only by necessity.  Wish the SR-7 weighed more.

no, not at all. some people just cant get the knack for baitcasters. some people use cane poles. some use fly rods. it just boils down too catching fish.

I use Shimano spinning reels and Shimano 6'-8" or 7'-0"  medium/heavy rods with 50# white braided Spectra line (about 12# dia.) on all reels for all baits.  I know it is completely unorthodox but it works for me.  I have never broke off a fish and I also catch just as many as my friends. Water here (S. La) is usually mixed to murky to muddy.  Fishing mainly spinnerbaits and creature baits.
