tdc rangemaster Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Looking for opinons for a good rod length and action for the technique of underhand rollcasting spinnerbaits at cover at medium distance..accuracy is more important than distance for this technique and is rapid fire..I have caught lots of bass back in my tournament days using a 5 1/2 foot rod back in the day..what is the current thinking for this fast style of fishing. tdc rangemaster Posted March 12, 2010 Author Posted March 12, 2010 Thanks for moving this. I realized my mistake as soon as I posted. Quote
Dockhead Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 I need a pistol grip to do it right. I have a 6 foot mh Bionic Blade from bps. Does a pretty good job, but the 5 1/2 foot Daiwa I grew up using was even better. It was medium action and I was more accurate with that give in the tip of the rod. I had the notion of taking an old 6 1/2 foot rod, removing the handle and replacing it with a pistol grip. I just seem to be more comfortable with longer rods, so thought I would like to try and finagel something a little longer than 6 foot. Maybe one day I'll try it... Quote
tdc rangemaster Posted March 12, 2010 Author Posted March 12, 2010 back in the 80s this was the way to fish this style. With 5 1/2 foot pistol gripped rods..Ive been away from serious fishing and have some tournaments coming up and just wondered what fisherman were using these days for this style of medium distance fast casting Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Here is a great spinner-bait video by Glenn: http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-videos/spinnerbaits-bass-fishing.html Quote
Fury Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 I take a 6'6 blank and cut it down to 6'2 and use a 6-7" rear grip. The shorter grip (like the pistol) allows for easy rolling of the wrist without getting hung up on cloths. For this style of fishing I assume that heavy cover will be involved so I like a Fast action MH power rod for 3/8 and 1/2 oz spinners. #4 Micro guides all on top with a #5 butt guide. Scott Quote
tdc rangemaster Posted March 12, 2010 Author Posted March 12, 2010 I would love to watch that video but for some reason they wont play on my computer. is there a certain player i need? Turned off my firewall and now the video played..very informative and I see the technique Glenn uses is the same that I've used. and with a longer rod with a long grip. Guess its just adapting to the equipment.thanks Quote
Dockhead Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Just saw one on the All Star site that might suit you. 6', mh, fast action with pistol grip. Quote
