I know the standard rod lengths are 6', 6'6", 7', 7'6".

I have quite a few of those lengths and different actions but I for some reason prefer the odd lengths like 6'3", 6'8", 6'9", 6'10", 7'2".  I guess I like things out of the norm....

i like rods out of the norm too , that's why i like to have mine custom made !! in choosing a blank , let's say it's 7'6'' , you can always have some taken off the butt end of it and make it a 7'3'' or even a 7'5'' and 3/4" . i guess if you really look at all the rod manufactures , they have a rod in almost every increment (inch) you can imagine , so to say something is "odd" doesn't seem to apply as far as rods 6'6" - 8'. anyhow , being different is for me is having what i exactly want instead of compromising with what is "the standard offering" ........

I am finding that I really like the 6'3" length for spinning rods.  Just feels more controllable to me than common 6'6" rods.

I kinda dig the odd sizes as well.  6'9" seems to be the sweet spot for me and I wish there was more options available in that length.

6'9" fishes more like a 7' (to me) but it's easier to transport when you don't have a rod locker.  I fish out of a 14' aluminum boat so I have to strap down my rods/reels in the bed of my pickup while traveling.  Even the boats I'm looking to purchase in the next few years have lockers that hold up to 7' rods so the 6'9" would be better there.

I have an older AllStar SRMLTN that's 5'10", rated for 10-20lb line.  I used that rod with 8lb line for skipping Gitzits with a 1/16oz head underneath weed infested boat docks in western NY state.  Wish I had a sawbuck for every 3+ LM or smallie I pulled out of those docks using that shorter rod.  Still have it but don't use it much these days.
